Why do people like him ?

Because they think cubes are the skilled man's debris animation. Don't be upset, they don't know any better.

Because he does things only a few animators can in the current state of the industry.

There are better animators than him working on Naruto !

Oh really? From what I can tell, most animators simply choose to work on films and give their animation proper fluency. His cuts aren't all that impressive.

Is it just me, or is Hidetsugu Ito just a better Hackamura?

Because he focuses on creating a grandiose spectacle and mostly hits the mark. I'm not too fond of his modern work, but it's easy to see the appeal.

>Hits the mark
No

Do you have anything to actually say?

He doesn't 10 second cuts in the middle of 20 minute episodes, his style is so different that it sticks out like a sore thumb, Norio Matsumoto is better.

He and Naotoshi shida should get the rope.

>He doesn't
In terms of creating a grandiose spectacle, yes, I'd say he achieves that.
>10 second cuts in the middle of 20 minute episodes, his style is so different that it sticks out like a sore thumb
Neither of these things are necessarily bad. If I had to criticize Nakamura in those regards, I'd say that his current penchant for abruptly adjusting the scale of a scene is often jarring and, if he can't handle an entire fight himself, is better suited to especially climactic scenes.
>He and Naotoshi shida should get the rope.
Comparing Nakamura to Shida is over-the-top, Nakamura isn't anywhere near that bad.

>Adjusting the scale of a scene
Yeah, it's pretty bad if he wants to do his own things, he should animate entire fights not just the last 20 seconds. He ought to take inspiration from Norio matsumoto or shingo yamashita.

>Comparing Shida to Nakamura is over the top.
Sorry, it was juts hyperbole, fuck shida.

>good character animation>big explosions and cubes
Prove me wrong

>He ought to take inspiration from Norio matsumoto or shingo yamashita.
I'm pretty sure that's how we got modern Nakamura in the first place.

Elaborate ?

I doubt that. Nakamura's current approach is an evolution of his work in the 2000s. You can see the stylistic traits in his FMA and Soul Eater work. The main difference these days is that he presents his action on a larger scale.

>grandiose spectacle
When I think of grandiose spectacle I think of films animated by Ohira, Anno, Nishita, Okiura, Yoshinari, Futaki or Kubo, but certainly not the trash drawn by Nakamura.

From an objective standpoint, Nakamura's action storyboarding is atrocious . Complete lack of spacial awareness and flow. I still have no fucking idea of what's happening here:

Duuuude, cuuuubes !

Probably makes more sense in context. What I find particularly weird is the use of impact frames. They feel completely random, given the scope of the events they are used for.

>Probably makes more sense in context.
It doesn't.

I don't understand why so many people here feel the need to be tryhard contrarian faggots

I agree that someone needs to reign Nakamura in these days. His cut in BNHA where Bakugou goes flying completely breaks the logic of the scene

It happened in the manga though ?

Not nearly to as extreme extent as being able to thrust himself over a bunch of buildings. In the manga he literally only shoots directly up slightly

Looking back on Nakamura's older animation, I feel like his current work is just a crude parody in comparison.

He's simply catering to the popularity of capeshit visuals. Lots of cuts, terrible visual directing, big boom boom with detoriating quality because the masses don't care (e.g. see the MCU's visuals peaking with Iron Man 1)

No, most work on TV. The movie industry is quite a bit smaller and more restricted.

The anime movie industry was really booming until the virus hit

Then watch those movies then. Nakamura is still one of the best animators working right now consistently.

Feels like a bubble destined to burst soon. The 3 major non-Ghibli hits of 2016 caused a lot of producers to throw themselves on movies, but the vast majority of them are flops. It doesn't seem sustainable.

I think it's funny how Nakamura has worked on one notable feature film throughout his entire career: Blood The Last Vampire. He got school so hard by Iso, Nishio, Ohira and Okiura, he stuck to animating television shows and compilation movies instead. Kek. What a guy.
