Ep01~04 and 08~10 looked good, we had a down around the middle but it seems like it's back for now.
Precure never was an anime that looked 100% on-model, even well-regarded seasons for visuals like HeartCatch or Go! Princess had their share of QUALITY.

I know this sounds exceedingly stupid, but does anyone else think that the weekly HG episode feels even more significant than usual with the whole corona shit going on? I don't need to have Precure validated to me by outside events because I love the series, but it does feel like the girls are fighting diseases in much the same way as we're fighting the situation right now. It really makes you cheer for the girls even more than usual.

Not particularly, no. Ultimately HG feels more centered around living your best life than actual diseases or environmentalism. It touches on disease with Nodoka's back-story and all, and will likely do so again with Hinata's family's clinic, but as far as any "healing" goes, it's more the soothing kind so far.

If it's a girl, then I think she'll just be a red herring for Earth instead. Previous general-to-Cure characters have been introduced much earlier for the proper development to occur.
