Only one I really disagree with. Jinbe will likely get inherit Fisher Tiger's and/or Otohime's dream of peace between humans and fish/merfolk. If Luffy is Joyboy, then the Straw Hats are going to be doing something with Fishman Island at some point, and it's probably in Jinbe's favor to be there with them to aid in the process.

Oda does update it to include newer Straw Hats, so it's a good place to look to see how Oda balances things. The family thing is pretty useless though since you can assign whatever relative role to any character.

Fair point. I don't recall if he knows anything about that prophecy, or about the Shirahoshi stuff. Maybe he believes Luffy's influence helped with the royal family and FI being more motivated to act on Reverie and all that and feels it's right to follow him and that pirate king status would benefit them somehow. I have no idea just throwing stuff out there.

The difference here is that it was abundantly clear from the point the crew reached the Grand Line that usopp's patchwork fixes were never a long-term solution and the entirety of Skypeia solidified the actual need for a better craftsman which was the arc directly before Water 7. But again, this was a recurring problem for the crew that their ship was getting damaged.

Jinbei having a role is fine, but it's easily the most contrived role to be handed out.

Jinbei's kinda been pushed since arlong and we always knew they'd get a fishman no matter how fucking boring those shitters are. Jimbo's the absolute best of them though, participating in best arcs and also flat out demonstrating powerlevels like hancock. Of course that setup was before there were yonkos to add that extra retarded pagoda level advancement cliche. If there were just shichibukai the overall plot would be about half over.

I get why Jinbei is on the crew. I'm not even mad he got in and Oda gave him hands down one of the best moments of the arc with his re-introduction this chapter.

I just call it like I see it though. The Helmsman role is just Oda trying to find a square hole to fit this peg even though the story hasn't really been concerned with filling crew positions since we picked up Brooks over a decade ago. God I'm fucking old

I don't think any additional members absolutely need a role. I'm guessing Oda gave him the title given that he's a fishmen but who knows, maybe he'll do something fun with the role in the future.

Maybe not to justify some vacancy but add some dynamic to sea-faring later. Hopefully.

Usopp isn't officially the lookout, and Zoro isn't officially second-in-command but rather a fighter (though he does act as first mate as a sorta secondary role). Also Franky is more accurately the shipwright. Craftsman sounds more broad - Usopp does craft stuff too, namely with his and Nami's weapons.
