Serial Experiments Lain

she's the process and the result
SEL is GOAT, it's very metaphorical and has a subtle story telling method, it's not for your spoon fed popcorn bubblegum anime watcher and requires you to think.
I don't remember the show very well. But for its supposed depth, I've never seen an exhaustive, analytical or thoughtful discussion about the show. Compared to Eva, where the meaning and nuances of even the shortest scenes have been debated back and forth for 20+ years, discussion on Lain begins and ends with something like "it's about the internet", "it's about humanity" or "it's esoteric".
Something else I've noticed in anime communities is that Lain fans are eager to let everyone know that they've seen Lain, but aren't necessarily eager to discuss it because they'll be exposed for not understanding it. I'm wholly convinced that either a) no English speakers understand Lain, or b) Lain is actually incoherent.
Not all about the 2deep4u metaphors but it kind of requires a rewatch to get the whole picture.
It's simple for 10 or so eps then gets gainax-y.
After watching it a single time I can confidently claim to fully understand Serial Experiments Lain and all 27 of its themes.
I thought it was very simplistic, but I understand not everyone is born with a genius 113 IQ like me.
If you think it's shallow, I would recommend researching some fan theories on it. If those fail convince you that it has hidden depth then it just ain't for you.
