If I had to remove one trope from Shounen it'd be this
>a child who just got their powers a month ago is already stronger than people who been training for 30+ years
If I had to remove one trope from Shounen it'd be this
>a child who just got their powers a month ago is already stronger than people who been training for 30+ years
>Stronger
What does that even mean in the context of a show with a actual power system rather than MMO stats?
His power is literally Super Strength you fucking reward.
The MC gets the shitty girl
Performs better in combat
I don't think you know what the word reward means, you retard.
Deku has a broken as fuck quirk that lets him brute force fights against people who have more experience than him, unless they have an equally broken quirk like Overhaul did
>everyone in the series has a bunch of creative interesting powers
>except the MC, whose only power is that he punches harder
>MCs parent(s) is actually a legend/in the highest position of whatever status MC is working towards
/thread
no writer would be dumb enough to add something like this user
MC love interest is just a dependent, obessive, dumb girl with gigantic pair of tits
Like, why can’t the MC just actually be unrelated to the events? See how far he can push himself through his own actual discipline and determination, not because he’s motivated by his predecessors who carved their own path. It’s even worse when they use this as a big reveal.
>Moralfag MC can't get his hands dirty even when facing human scum.
>Rivals
I used to love this trope but they’re hardly ever done right. In the end it’s always making the MC look good or better than the rival no matter how they started out
>power of friendship
>missing dad is a legend
>orphan because of the bad guy
>being popular makes you evil
>op being a faggot even with quads
This bothers me, but you have to realize that there are only three alternatives:
1) the mc is shit-tier for most of the story
2) time skips
3) the mc already starts as a master who trained for 30 years, which means you don't get to use him as reader camera
Flashback during a fight. I don’t give a fuck who or what it is, I don’t want that shit now. I don’t hate flashbacks themselves but writers need to set up a different way to make me give a shit about the fucker about to die, or the MC who is about to bring out an asspull without proper foreshadowing
No there aren’t. The MC doesn’t have to be completely shit, he can still hold his own somehow (See MC from JJK). Also why do the antagonists have to be so much stronger immediately if the story is going to make the shitty MC who probably has a low status in society fight him? Why is the MC fighting if veterens struggle to win? It’s about logic during writing but authors want to rush and make their “iconic” showdowns as soon as they can
>MC whose only power is punch harder
>until the MC is given 6 extra creative powers that also punch harder
how would this work for shows where the mc's parents are the opposite of their goal
I would still hate that. Why can’t the MC ever actually start off as an underdog?
I'm glad Jojo fixed tgat from Part's 4 and beyond.
Part 3 was "jotaro ora ora ora lol"
Super modes/power levels.
The whole "I never ever give up" bullshit as if the MC just wants it more than their opponents.
>1) the mc is shit-tier for most of the story
When compared to the big bad that's absolutely fine provided the MC doesn't fight or interact with the big bad until they're stronger. A weak MC getting stronger by defeating weak big bad minions is exactly how it should be.
>2) time skips
These can be done well but generally aren't. One Piece comes to mind as a series that handled their time skip relatively well.
>3) the mc already starts as a master who trained for 30 years, which means you don't get to use him as reader camera
This is fine too as long as the need/cause for the MCs sudden trials and tribulations makes sense and as long as he grows, either in strength or as a character.
"Dark" teenage boy anger powerup.
Romanticizing teen rage to an audience of autistic nerds is a recipe for school shootings
Naruto did it best imo
Too many to count.
>Part 3 was "jotaro ora ora ora lol"
He still used a lot of creativity in his fights especially during his fight with Dio, retard.
BTFO PHONE POSTER
Agreed. The underlying homo-ness pf their bond aside, I do think that they were good as rivals throughout and it was done right.
It's funny how they gave the introverted thinker a power that encourages direct conftentation instead of thinking and planning
>mc has deep, forgotten or secret blood ties to the most OP legendary god slayer level fighters from their world ever and all is revealed much later
>idiot mc
>mc is afraid(?) of getting pussy
>O, MY TIME STOP
And that's how you spot a retard who hasn't read the manga. See ya next time kids!
I don't trust Shounen with Isekai elements the most. But there are several cliches that stand out to me as the ones that I dislike the most:
1) Teen Dramas with love triangles.
2) Evil Yandere girls who threatens anyone getting in the way of the love for their boys.
3) Overpowered MCs with super modes who manages to defeat their bosses in five minutes.
4) MC gets ostracized by everyone as a result of being cursed with demon superpowers.
5) Anything that romanticizes dysfunctional teenagers when their character flaws is badly written.
I don't know what's the problem people have with timeskip
They're generally executed poorly for the sole excuse of a power up. It essentially comes across as "the character(s) need more power so they'll just train off screen rather than something actually happening in the story" most of the time. One Piece comes to mind as a series that did the time skip right since the skip happened due to previous events instead of as a precursor.
>"the character(s) need more power so they'll just train off screen rather than something actually happening in the story"
But isn't this what happened in One Piece anyway, like yeah something triggered it but was done for the same purpose.
>MC gains various allies
>but even then he's the only one allowed to win or have cool moments
Because the MC isn’t that ancestor, you dumb fuck. They could have the most badass ancestor and still turn out as a pathetic loser. It’s why chads have some kids that turn out as absolute cucks.
>4) MC gets ostracized by everyone as a result of being cursed with demon superpowers.
Why is that a problem? It makes sense and it happens often in real life.
> Anything that romanticizes dysfunctional teenagers when their character flaws is badly written.
At first, I was going to say “but that’s unintentionally hilarious”, until I remembered Franxx.
World Trigger totally shitting on this idea is one of the best parts of that manga
Everyone suddenly learns how to fly
Is light homoeroticism a necessity for writing a good rival?
Good list.
>5) Anything that romanticizes dysfunctional teenagers when their character flaws is badly written.
Code Geass fits here. I don't know how anyone can watch Lelouch's actions without cringing.
I fucking hate transformations and bloodlines that make the loner/loser go from 0-hero. I want that shit to be earned.
Except Lelouch's character flaws are pretty well written.Geass isn't supposed to be realistic in any way shape or form
Try Black Clover
Right but it wasn't solely just "we need more power so time skip" it was a "we need more power, we're already separated, and I can be trained by roger's literal right hand man so time skip". Furthermore, events/forces happened in the outside world while they were training. The world moved on and their opponents got more powerful along with them. An example of a poor time skip would be Black Clover.
Emotions powering up a character. It can be a good source of motivation or help someone fight harder and ignore pain but the second it actually grants the power it becomes pure shit
Trick question: All of them.
Not, really, all of them.
>An example of a poor time skip would be Black Clover.
But they were grossly outclassed.
>Furthermore, events/forces happened in the outside world while they were training.
This happened in Black Clover.
>MC gets hit by girl, doesn’t defend himself
>All For One can have literally any combination of powerups the author can think of
>proceeds to just punch All Might really hard
>is surprised when All Might, whose entire quirk is reserving power and punching hard, ends up having extra power in reserves and punches him really hard
There are many reasons I cant stand BnHA and that's a big one. Even the fight with muscular made me roll my eyes so hard
>deku gets completely overpowered
>repeatedly gets his shit kicked in
>then just screams "I WON'T LET YOU HURT THE KID" and one shots the villain
Are there any series where the MC isn't the strongest character? Like he might be strong but he's still getting outclassed by other people and just has to make an impact with what little he has?
Stories like this are a lot easier to find than you think they are. Of the top of my head HxH, BC, JJK, CSM and even MHA fit the bill
When you don't do this though shonenshitters cannot comprehend it and constantly complain about the MC or his friends jobbing. Nice quads by the way
Jujutsu Kaisen, the MC is relatively strong, but he can't beat the characters that are the absolutely strongest. He even needs help even with characters slightly weaker than that.
World Trigger
