To be fair, same happened in real mythology. Syncretism is a massive part of religion especially old pagans.
The difference is mythology is/was genuinely believed and has actual cultural impact. Capeshit is no more modern myth than star wars, GoT, or hunger games and can be undone when fans just lose interest.
