It's very rare to find a girl, or anyone at all, who cares about you that much. So even if it was artificial, it may as well have been real. She had artificial intelligence which means there's a good chance she genuinely cared about him. Even if she was programmed to do so, it's kind of like how a pet or a dog is going to develop a positive connection with you unless you absolutely treat it like shit.
