In many ways it's the aesthetic opposite of Star Wars.

The story revolves around a drug called melange (aka spice) which grants longevity and precognition and is a necessary component for space travel. The drug can only be found in one planet (Dune) and there are various zany factions trying to get control of it. The trouble lies in the natives of Dune (the Sardaukar) who are extremely hardy and capable warriors as well as the hostile environment of the world itself. The story follows the son of one of the leaders of a minor faction as he fulfills a Sardaukar prophecy and becomes their leader, gaining control of Dune (and in later books, becoming a literal god).

>paul masters his powers and returns to exact revenge on harkonnen and overthrow the emperor by leading the fremen in a jihad against them
It's pretty neat and very influential, but massively overrated. I'd read the first book, and then check out the rest if you really enjoyed it

I've always imagined the fashion of dune to be something like a mix between Renaissance Italy and Ottoman empire.
I'd be more happy if the elite army of saurdukars looked something weird like the swiss guard let's say rather than tacticool Halo soldiers, but of well, I'm still pretty hyped
