Most stuff in Star Wars makes no sense. They have shields, but can only protect against energy weapons. Solid material can pass right through it, making the shields pointless. Like in Jedi, fighters fly right through the shields of a Super Star Destroyer to blow up the shield generator to allow the energy weapons to hit the ship. Why not just use solid projectiles that ignore shields altogether? Fire all the missiles, rockets and torpedoes you can into an enemy ship and the shields won't do fuck all to protect it.
