Probably been discussed to death but I just watched this and it was an abomination. Why didn't they just follow up on the two previous movies? Why does the final part in a 9-part film series function like a standalone movie with some fanservice thrown in? 2 hours 3 minutes of nothing but hollow impactless action and cheesy forced characterization.

There was nothing set up from the previous 2 films. All you have is Jedi with blue lightsaber leading small band of rebels against sith with red lightsaber leading large imperial force.

Episode 8 was their chance to do something different with the franchise, hell theyy could have even done the same thing, but instead they did nothing. Literally there is nothing of consequence that comes out of episode 8 leading to them having to create/solve problems in episode 10.

I don't understand why they didn't just follow the story of the last 2 films either. No one wanted Palpatine back, no one wanted it to suddenly be "the end of the 9-part saga!" Ironically they failed at that because all the Skywalkers are dead and the myth is destroyed because JJ wanted the entire story to center around Rey because he's a creepy incel waifufag with shit taste.

EP IX should have been about Kylo, Resolve his story and you resolve the ST story and the Skywalker saga story. Simple.

Why even make it a trilogy? Are they autistic with ADHD? The other two were trilogies so ours has to be!

Kylo isn't a Sith. And his story is the entire ST story, there's your set up. Rey doesn't matter, why would she? She's not a Skywalker or particularly important aside from her connection to Kylo Ren.

The main conflict is the war and every major conflict in the story centers around Kylo Ren. The Skywalker family are tragic, so they must end Ben's story happily to heal that wound. It writes itself.

It's very clear that they threw the entire saga and especially the previous two films out the window just so they could give Rey Kylo Ren's story and pretend she is important.

>No one wanted Palpatine back
Some fanboys were happy about it. Especially those who had always hoped Snoke was important and were allergic to Kylo being an effective villain. In other words: Those who think that Abrams is a good storyteller and hated TLJ for not catering to them.

This. And Palpatine looked weird as fuck in this. Hardly felt like the same character at all. This film is much like Palpatine himself - an unrecognizable abomination brought back from the dead for no reason

ayo that water planet isn't even endor

and a huge fucking chunk went into hyperspace

>Why didn't they just follow up on the two previous movies?
Why didn't Rian Johnson follow up on Abrams vision in the previous movie?

They all felt weird retard

>Why didn't Rian Johnson follow up on Abrams vision in the previous movie?
Because Abrams didn't have a vision in TFA. He just had mystery boxes. And ROS proves that.
