It's one thing to go into battle knowing there is a chance you will die, but it's quite another knowing that your death is almost certain. Faramir has a 1/100 chance to live, and he just got really lucky (or fate had deemed that he survive since fate seemed to play a strong role in the whole affair, starting with Bilbo finding the ring).
This kind of bravery is true of the Fellowship as well. Taking the ring to Mordor was basically a suicide mission that really shouldn't have succeeded, but it did.
