Which part is supposed to scare me? And what difference does it make if you are watching 4K when the tv is huge and needs to be 10 meters away when you can watch 1080p with the tv 2 meters away

Well I have to be honest between h264 and HEVC 1080p files I can't tell the difference in quality and it's usually half the size. The only problem I have is with the lossy audio but it's not the end of the world I suppose.

I'll keep saying it til the day something more efficient becomes mainstream: HEVC 1080p at 5 to 6 Mbps is the perfect tradeoff between quality (looks really good) and size.

wtf? I've been playing hevc mkv files for ages now and hdr is not even necessitating a new player / decoder or anything. You simply need a decent player who can automatically transform the colourspace if you don't have an HDR monitor.
