What's there to argue in favor of? The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere was nakedly just "we want to kick out the western imperialists in Asia so that WE can be the imperialists" and only the delusional in the Japanese government bought into the propaganda of it. The war in China was entirely over having more resources...so that they could keep the war in China going.
There's also the fact that Italian fascism had a lot of different goals from German fascism. I mean it wasn't even antisemitic in nature, the Fascist Party was filled to the brim with Jews who were card-carrying fascists (including his biographer who was also his mistress) before Germany pressured him into pushing out the racial laws.
