Three mile island had largely been forgotten desu, the US did a pretty good job at brushing it under the rug at the time. Only with Chernobyl happening people kinda realised what couldve happened.

This is the weird thing, though. Nuclear is actually the best for the environment of any known form of energy generation, if you include factors like what's required to construct and maintain it and harvesting the fuel.
