That's not even contentious, personality disorders used to be only treat IF they interfered with a persons ability to get through daily life succiently.
Not sure if that's still the case with how much psych treatment has changed since I was in university and now, the attitude towards trans gender is a full 180 of the attitude that was taught when I was learning that shit, but it used to be that unless someone is struggling through life then they were left as is, and any issues they had were most likely just a survival trait that was firing off to the wrong stimulus. Being anxious is a survival trait, the problem is when your brain is firing off "I'm in mortal danger, a leopard is chasing me", when you're faced with a large crowd of unfamiliar people. That'd be a pretty decent trait to have a few hundred years ago when any large crowd of unfamiliar people was probably a threat.
