Why is Transformers (2007) and Bumblebee so much higher quality than Transformers 2-5? What went wrong? Transformers 3 has some decent scenes where it's like a weird Terminator movie, but the drop in writing quality is massive in every film after the first one. You can't blame the writer's strike when Transformers 5 is such a dumpster fire.

The first one was good because it set it all up very well, and it hit all the right spots. But by the time we get to the third film the series just keeps presenting yet another "über villain" from the past that somehow retcons everything from the previous films.

The sequels are messy. The first one is not.

>TF1: We're looking for this uber powerful macguffing on Earth
>TF2: We're looking for a different uber powerful macguffing on Earth
>TF3: We're looking for a third different uber powerful macguffing on Earth
>TF4: Could you believe it? a 4th different uber powerfur maguffing on Earth
>TF5: ...yeah, another uber powerful maguffing on your planet, guys

>TF1: Transformers were in the explorer days
>TF2: Transformers were in the ooga booga days
>TF3: Transformers were in the kubrick days
>TF4: Transformers were in the dinosaur days
>TF5: Transformers were in the westeros days
>TF6: ???
where do they even go from here?

Michael Bay is not interested in the script or plot. He is interested in spectacle, scale and visual language of cinema. Sure the later films are not really coherent plot wise but the visuals and scale is impressive. The kinetic, dynamic cinema that Bay creates is nothing short of breathtaking.

the third act of tf3 is actually pretty fun
and the score is kino

It's a visual mess, you literally don't know what's happening once the piles of metal start to punch each other

that's always how combat is portrayed ffs look at saving private ryan

>Autobots execute Decepticons by ripping them appart while alive, they laugh and America fuck yeah theme can be heard in the background. They also ignore humans being vaporized just meters away from them
>Decepticons execute Autobots by shotting them in the head. Sad music, slowmo and Autobots in agry/I'm going to avenge my friends

These movies are fucked up

the problem isn't his fights, it's his humor. His retarded script writers ruin the only thing he is good at and it just lowers the quality of his set pieces.

Think of them as patriotic war movies, it's ok when we do it, is not when they do it, even when is literally the same thing.

its robots versus robots, did you expect a malick film or something?

I disagree. Michael Bay understands cinema and is very visually literate director. Sometimes he cuts too much like in Six Underground but visually he is very skilled.

The score for all Bayformers is based. TF2's forest fight

Unironically Bumblebee cybertron war scene is way better than he previous 5 movies fighter scenes.

When dis nigga optimus prime gives a speech he has me ready to roll TF out with the autobots

For a kids movies I expected the good guys not being psycho murderers to even higher degree than the bad guys.

The problem is that the pacing takes a nosedive after the first movie. The Island and Transformers were very well paced movies that feel concise and brisk. Transformers 4 is a slog. It never fucking ends. And the fucking awful dialogue makes it drag even more. Then they got to fucking China because of course they do and then the movie keeps going.

i hate the new bumblebee movie. it's no different than a marvel flick and the score is forgettable. Yeah, ultimately it's a safer movie but it lacks the seriousness of bayformers. If only they found a middle ground between the two; have a serious and emotional take on the film (like district 9), but without the retarded bay humor and long run time.

>spend 2 hours driving through a city to transport a bomb away from the city
>At the end of the movie "I must go, my people need me!" flies away
...why didn't he do that earlier?

what's so wrong about wanting to watch good robots kill bad robots?

>let humans dies
>ignore humans being killed
>turture and maim instead of just kill
...yeah, I'm not sure any of them is good

i think you are being way too autistic about what is essentially a kids movie

Exactly, is a kids movie, good guys should be held up to a higher stadards of ethics. Is not ok to teach kids that if they think they're in the right anything is allowed.

Bumblebee definitely lacks Bay's sense of style. It's basically a Herbie movie but with more explosions.

You can tell when Bay cares about a movie he's making (Bad Boys, TF1, Pain and Gain) compared to when he doesn't give a shit (TF2, 4, and 5).
Was that new movie he made any good?

>For a kids movies
Eh... these things have an awful lot of masturbation jokes and outright discussions of masturbation for kid's movies.

no not really the basedguy reynolds is insufferable in it

yea the script writing is terrible in these movies. even as a kid, a lot of things in the movie put me off when i watched it for the first time. and the movies are too bloated anyway

MPAA, Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action violence, brief sexual humor, and language
>kids movie

Bumblebee was shit

I kinda feel like making the movies edgy with these sometimes cringey adult jokes was a mistake. Tranformers should have gone the Kangaroo Jack angle of having a few veiled jokes, but ultimately being family friendly-ish. Anthony Anderson was great in both Kangaroo Jack and Transformers. Wish he was in more stuff.

Is for horny teenagers and manchildren who buy toys, not for kids.

Harley is also for little girls even though is R rating, bigot.

Didn't watch it, just HD full clips of the battle scenes and those were amazing, is the rest really that bad?

To be honest couldn't finish TF4 and didn't even watch a single minute of TF5. TF3 was already a chore.

I like that Optimus has a Decepticon body count in the hundreds if not thousands by now and gets more unhinged as each movie goes on. I also like how Megatron is like the least threatening character after the first movie and just wants to make peace so Optimus rips his fucking head off with an axe.
Pretty sure for every 1 Autobot that dies a couple thousand Decepticons do as well. It's a wonder the Decepticons ever conquered Cybertron at all considering they die in fucking droves to even a single Autobot in the movies.

The whole thing was like a mashup of commercials and music videos. Good action scenes with no real story to connect any of it

13 Hours is probably the greatest Baykino since The Rock

ONE MAN

It started alright but was just pretty shit by the end. Bay's were better

There's isn't really anything wrong with OP unifying the Autobots and being the MVP of the faction, maybe that's the point, he's like the John Connor of Transformers

But when even humans can kill Deceps it means the series overstayed its welcome

>gets more unhinged as each movie goes on
Yes, the end of 3 portrays him as a merciless juggernaut of revenge, 4 and 5 continue this trend and are worth watching just for that. Also you have Mark Whalberg saying insane shit and swordfighting giant robots. I'd say 2 is still the worst.

The first transformer movie fucking blows. Absolutely nothing going on in that movie past the bells and whistles, I fell asleep trying to finish it 3 times

I liked TF1 and some parts of TF2. But Bumblebee designs were amazing and better imo, yeah I love transformers to be blocky and with surfaces instead of edges and bones everywhere. I think Shatter was a good middle ground of both styles.

I still can't stand Bumblebee's baby with pacifier face and the mute gimmick they're pushing so much.

Outside of a couple of truly embarrassing scenes, Transformers 1 was basically the dumb action blockbuster perfected.

The action is kino

I assume cybertronians are hyper weak, Starscream was throwing Sam left and right and the fact that he wasn't a disjointed mess fless a bones just means cybertronians are weak.

You did essentially what it shoud be done with any of the TF movies, go to youtube and watch the fight scenes

Why do people shit on Michael Bay extra hard for doing exactly what other Hollywood directors are doing more or less?

I didn't like the way a lot of the final battle scenes were shot, it's still kinda difficult to tell what is going on (although not as bad as the later films). The highway chase scene and the one where Starscream is taking out fighterjets are both great though.

Only some can handle bay's action

I shit on hollywood cause I hate hollywood and this board, fuck you and die.

t.pol

He just leans into the juvenile pleasure of the action spectacle without any pretension, most filmmakers on his level will only make movies like this if there is some gimmick or pretension.

5 is the same as 4 except even worse because optimus is barely in it. I watched it out of curiosity and it impresses me how are they spending so much money and effort into such a shit flick. Who greenlit this garbage? But the soundtrack is kino as always. Do yourself a favour, watch the fight scene on jewtube and download the score onto your phone. You essentially get the plot from the fights anyway. The score is the only gift these movies keep on giving.

This
Many directors care about their profolio and legacy and will always try to work with the best script and crew they can get their hands on. Michael Bay doesn’t give a fuck and just work on w/e the studio throw money at him and give him to make. He just want to practice his visual and set pieces and take his money. There are few movies that he actually care about. People usually mindlessly shit on Bay as a cred but don’t even recognize that he’s very good at making action scenes and effortlessly make good combined use of cgi, special effects, and practical effects while many other directors struggle to do so with much bigger budget.

This is it.

But Bay is a known republican. This is perhaps why he isn't getting that much work nowadays, kek.

He had a pretty steady output. He is also developing new project at Sony.

T3 has the best decepticon. The series peaked at Chernobyl.

The cg in tf1 really impresses me, especially considering he films in real locations and puts the cg on top of the action scenes he filmed. It looks seamless. Just look at this shit
youtube.com/watch?v=fGYXGdLd7ik

There's something about early CGI looking better than current CGI and I don't know why that is. It feels like the spec. effects teams became super lazy.

>Bumblebee so much higher quality

everything is outsourced to poojeets that do hacked together shit for 0.05/an hour

>"YES!, They're sending F-22 to the city!!"
>scene is F16s taking off
Ok, what?

It is SHOCKING how good the visual effects look for something that released in 2007. You stop seeing them as CG, and simply accept them as really present in the scene.

Iron man 1 CGI is absurldy good...and then you watch Infinity War or Endgame and just go What?!!

It really isn’t. There’s nothing impressive about making robots do cgi flips.
