THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT

who is in the wrong here?

Decent movie up until last 15 minutes or so. Probably 7/10 so audience score pretty close

I accept both of those numbers. It's an ok movie even it is LvT masturbating to his own career. More than anything it made me want a real Inferno movie.

Lars is a hack

>LvT masturbating to his own career
Kek, there's a fucking montage of his previous films. You could argue it's a meta commentary on how artists love to sniff their own farts (much like Jack did) but knowing Lars I wouldn't be surprised if he really were so self-indulgent.

both wrong, it's excellent

critics are right and wrong at the same time. It's definitely a lesser film in Lars's career, but not because of "REEE IT'S VIOLENT REEE EGOTISTICAL" but because it more of the same for Trier, he already trolled people who overanylyze film in Riget series. and did it much better (and no I don't think this film is about Lars himself, this is a surface level observation that people overblow by anylyzing every tiny crap in this film, which is technically Trier's intention, to bait pseuds).

9% difference isn't that much user

women

I loved it, it was a wild self masturbatory ride. Watched it with some family and we had fun talking about what we thought it meant. Not necessarily the deepest movie or anything but a great romp through utter depravity.

>durr 57% means that they're claiming it's a 5.7/10
No. It could mean that even 100% of critics could disagree with you if none of them think it's okay but rather really good or really bad. It's meaningless to use the "score" like that.

I've just been watching movies a lot lately. wtf happened to RT scores? I watched like 3 movies above 80 and they're either boring or has some weird women is strong message like revenge.

These. Scores are pretty accurate to the quality of this flick masquerading as kino.

I liked it but those numbers seem accurate, it's obviously a movie that's not for everyone. What did the bridge on the last level of hell leading up and how it was broken mean?

probably the exist from Hell, since it's a reference to Dante's Divine Comedy, where he and Virgil exit Hell at the end of the first book

It had a couple of good moments, but overall I thought it was so weak. It was edgy in a silly way.

Have any of you faggots watched and enjoyed Shelley? I was very moved and unnerved by that film and it seems as though that makes me retarded.

Everyone who gave the movie less than 95% out of 100.

Both because I honestly haven't seen a more honest film in a long time except An Elephant Sitting Still. Lars' final film is one where he accepts that the biggest barrier to making great art is and always has been his childish obsession with violent acts = exactly what his critics thought. It honestly takes a lot of bravery to admit that. The House That Jack Built itself is a film that gets distracted by meaningless violence, and in doing so elevates the core of it. An artist at war with himself.

Last fifteen minutes are the best part idiot

Movies similar to The House That Jack Built?

I knew absolutely nothing going in, not about the director or the actors or the storyline or anything, and it was very entertaining but that might be because i enjoy absurdist violence. The beginning was hilarious and i thought it was a good look into phsychopaths regardless of some hidden meaning. Looking at those ratings definitely underrated

This. He is only good for edgy manchilds.

The move is great, critics stink

Antichrist
Melancholia
Nymphomaniac (Director's Cut)

I know those were by Lans also but honestly I didn't get the same from them. Same with Dogville.

>Lars' final film
You mean he's quitting the business?

Well what exactly are you looking for then?

I have no idea. Just similar feelings taken away.

one of the best "loldudeiscrazypsychokiller" movies in the last few years.

Someone post the picture of the smile, you know what i'm talking about
I had a torrent for this movie uncensored but had to delete it to save space

But user I don't know how you felt about it

Well damn

>Decent movie up until the best sequence of the movie
Low IQ moron you are.

Lars continues to give zero fucks

Dogville

so what happened to jack after he fell?

The high pitched noise was one of the most effective things for being disturbing and depicting Hell in a long time. It just works in its simplicity and explanation.

This, it was really impressing

I am surprised looking back on it and having never seen the idea used before.
It is an incredibly basic and simple idea and extrapolation that the delivery hits all the harder using the imagination of the viewer.

Go back to your Disney thread

Lars for making such a shit movie.
It had so much potential and ended but being a complete pseudo intellectual slog to get through.
There is no message to this movie.

I don't get it

if some of the murders would be cut, or at least shortened it would be a much superior film. Currently, it's so up its own ass, revelling in being 'bad' that is just gets tiring. There's a point where everyone knows the gist and wants the movie to move on (e.g. the great ending) but Lars is prolonging that moment for so long that it just pissess the audience off.

and no, there is no rational reason for doing it apart from "I can and I want". Don't give me your nerdwriter1 takes niggas.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer

it’s more effective too

Critics. The whole film pokes fun at Lars' relationship with women and it's very funny dark meta comedy with multiple possible interpretations. It can be said it's feminist but also anti feminist. It's also nice statement about artistic process etc. Very fine piece work. Of course when critics see it, they don't attempt any form of analysis just muh misogyny etc. The same thing happened with some reviewers in Dragged Across Concrete. It was labeled as a right wing propaganda despite being quite balanced about social isssues.
He said he wanted other films but the rights would be expensive. Anyways it doesn't really matter. The film is a meta dark comedy so it fits with the whole film.
>films need to have a message
Lmao.

Either your film has a message or it stands on cinematography, writing, acting, etc.
This movie had nothing.
Except for the last 15 minutes. Everything from the house to the very end was good.

Absolute bullshit. Films don't need a message, are you a child that needs to spoonfed? That being said the message can be found here, despite his best efforts Jack doesn't get away with the terrible deeds he has done. He is arrogant enough to think he can escape, despite the fact that no other person ever did and he ends up even worse. It's a cautionary tale.
The film is well acted and the script is very good. It's very funny and tackles many themes.

is the unrated, uncensored version out yet

He joined the wailing chorus

Girl sad. Boohoo
They cut something out?

>They cut something out?
Yes, this retarded shot for example:

Well that's in my copy of it. I was hoping there'd be something new that I didn't know about yet waiting for me but alas.

Try Von Trier's other films
Element of Crime
Europa
Antichrist

>if some of the murders would be cut, or at least shortened it would be a much superior film.

from what I saw from webms this is like rampage/serbian film tier. am I wrong?

How is Epidemic? Any good with the recent corona news?

Not really. Less brutal, funny and with some actual things to discuss. Definitely not just gross out exploitation flick.

>tackles many themes.
Such as?
