What is the most common go to food that is so integrated in life but in origin very foreign?

I visited some Balkan restaurant that opened up in my area but I don't see it being as widespread as other restaurants. Balkan food is very often blended with a predominately Greek centric cuisine except with more drinking
The big named restaurants in the Washington DC area is defiantly more German style beer garden type of restaurants. It makes sense as American drinking culture is moving towards more artisan crafted beer culture,

I lived my whole life in the Midwest and everyone eats Mexican waaay more than Chinese food.

lol. I am an Asian and one time I was eating at a cheap Chinese restaurant in a mall. Some black guys walked by and saw me. I heard them say "shit that's how you know it's gotta be good" and they came in.
Pizza is Italian and you know it.
Go to the grocery store too you will see 100x more Italian stuff than Chinese. People might go out for Chinese take out or whatever, and its well liked, but nowhere near Italian. Not even near Mexican which is 2nd. Chinese is maybe 3rd at best.

Taco bell isn't Mexican, it's a completely American chain staffed by whatever ethnicity is available. There isn't a Mexican restaurant in every town in America, not even close. There's a Chinese restaurant even if the town literally has 5 chinese people in it.

I dont know about "every town in America" but Mexican-owned Mexican restaurants are way way more common than Chinese in the Midwest. There is not a Chinese restaurant in "every town" either. Go to grocery store and you will also see way more Mexican food and Mexican brands than you do Chinese.
I lived in Michigan (Lansing and Detroit suburb/Roseville), Pittsburgh, Chicago. Mexican and Italian are way more common than Chinese in all them.
Chinese food is gross in Michigan, always some shit-tier buffet garbage.

I live in Chicago. We have a big Mexican population, but outside of hipsters no one goes to the Mexican neighborhoods on any sort of basis. Everyone goes to our massive Chinatown (we actually have two unofficially) and most of the fusion / new-age cuisine is chinese/asian. The only "integrated" Mexican around here is Rick Bayless' meme stuff.
Some lignja with blitva and white wine is 10/10. But most people associate it with cevapcici and pljeskavica which is just artery clogging mince meat.
Ajvar is the best universal condiment though, even better than hummus.

Never seen more than 1 customer order from them. They're always empty and employs less than 2 folks inside. They somehow stay in business for 4+ years despite how little customers flow through

Too bad like I said Mexican restaurant are everywhere so it doesn't even matter now does it. There are way way more Mexicans than Chinese people in Chicago period and everyone likes their food more too

It's Italian food by a huge margin. In my town of 17.000 people we have 4 Italian restaurants and 5 pizza delivery services (one is most likely a mafia-run money laundering front business though)
