I had to read the whole of Ezekiel 16 to get the context of what was being said. The Lord is not taking about Sodom alone but a network of cities and sister cities with their sins he finds awful.
>50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
That comes after 49. The rest of 16 described what abomination was and how it sickened the Lord. In context of the whole chapter 49 was just contrasting Sodom to her sister cities, never saying she was destroyed just for treatment of the poor.

Of course but it didn't say that this was the reason they were destroyed. The explanation of 49 is to provide contrast to the sister (and mother) cities of Jerusalem and to Jerusalem. I really encourage you to read the whole of chapter 16 to see what God found to be an abomination. Verses 15-43 pretty much spell it out. Then you can go read Genius and loop that in. When you put it all together, its really unlikely-- even impossible-- that the city was destroyed for the treatment of the poor. That would be out of context.
