for a while after the germanic conquest the people genuinely thought they descended from franks

The french are larping as romans. Clovis was germanic and wanted the franks to be the spiritual successor of Rome.

Interesting. 6 years ago I wrote a paper about the NATO. It was a qualitative and quantitative research.
The French soldiers were basically universally saying that they couldn't deal with Meds (Italians and Spanish) because they were too different mentality wise and basically pissed them off with incompetence and emotionality, furthermore they stated that they felt it was most easy for them to work with Germans because they shared their sense of discipline and serious outlook on life.

I think genetically and historically you have a very strong Germanic influence and modern French mentality is much more like other Germanic cultures than meds for similiar reasons as stated above. And I wouldn't know what constitutes Celtic culture...I don't see a lot of overlap between the Irish and the French.

I work a lot with spain italy and germany
Spaniards are a pain and hyper aggressive. Italians never pay and lie all the time.We often get incendiary emails from spanish or italian clients, all red,fucking ??? in the email like full blown outrage. They demand to speak to higher ups ect. So we do and during the conf call you realize its fucking nothing and often even worse that they dont even know their stock or how much they need. Its just that they asked you for something and you said you couldnt do it in the timeframe they asked so they see an opportunity to throw a fit or something.
Dealing with them ressembles a bit dealing with north africa which are like that but even more aggressive

Id pick germany everytime. They get a bit AUT about procedures sometimes but shit just works. When they fuck up its clear and fair and when you fuck up its clear and fair. You know where youre going and everything is planned out.

lmao. Let me give you an external perception: No fucking way. My French ex gf thought the same but I think that was very much influenced by wishful thinking, more on that later.
Italians -god bless them- are fucking crazy, they talk with their hands 5 cm apart from your face screaming, just to tell you that there is no more spaghetti in the kitchen getting touchy for no reason as well (Northern Italians are a bit different of course).The mafia and corruption memes are also everything but overstated, the Roman patronage client system going apeshit.

I think it's just that you romanticize and like Italians and Spanish a bit more and that's why you wish you were more like them than Brits and Germans and that clouds your vision.

We are painfully Mediterranean in the way we run the country.
Almost every time there is a divide between northern and southern Europe, France stands on the southern European side.
Also all of our social constructs and societal demands/expectations are very Mediterranean. We protest a lot, we love a strong nanny state that should solve all of our problems, we take our time at lunch, we're catholics (and muslims lol), we are loud and rather touchy, we speak a romance language, our law system derives from roman law, we strive to improve society by working less and enjoying ourselves rather than improve society by working more and achieving technological progress & innovation. Etc. Anyone placing us on the germanic side of the european cultural spectrum is just dead wrong.
And there is nothing Celtic about us except for a few words

Once and for all : france is a cultural constellation, like every other countries, except for france it's more visible for numerous reasons. South = celto med, north = celto germ, for a simple drawing. The real picture is way more complicated if you ad protestant cities into the equation. Plus the cities are cosmopolitan areas and cannot be held for a population standard, it won't be representative. Strasbourg or Le Havre could be depicted as mediterranean cities. Is italia med or celt/germ ? Are the people from Ticino in switzerland med or germs ? South Tyrol ? And the people from galicia, meds, celts or wisigoths ? Welsh, meds ?
