Yes, though mostly berries and mushroom.

how is that economical? are they including the cost of passage in their wages?

Why not Mexicans? They're at least on the same continent

unironicall yes

Yes, we also employ Africans to replant forests for logging

What? Nigga did you read?

Yeah and now the farmers will literally let their crop rot because that would lose them less money than hiring Norwegians over Eastern Europeans (who can't enter the country). Strange world.

yep but they gtfo the country every day so we can always just close the border and lock em out

yes
also for cones

nice brexit lmao

This.

Come back to harvest the asparagus, or you will force the market to finally develop an asparagus-harvester. You'll NEVER harvest asparagus again unless you harvest them NOW.

you cant harvest it by a machine, you stemcels fail at everything

Flights are just fraction of the overall costs, Tyrone. Even thais are flown here to do seasonal work.

mafia quite litterally uses slaves from africa to pick our fruits and veggies

Yes, mostly Ukrainians and Belarusians

yes. then we go to australia and harvest theirs for fun instead of our own.

not yet. that used to be said of almost everything until clever people came up with a harvester.

Any work can be done by a machine, it's just a matter of economics.

>you cant harvest it by a machine

*For cheaper than the money it takes to have them harvested by people with white license plates.

Not that there are no white license plates to harvest, other methods need to be found. Either have them harvested by locals (unlikely), or develop machine. If this situation lasts, there will be machines..

yes

no, some things are not possible, i know its difficult to comprehend for your 0 and 1 brain but aspharagus is one of those things
can be done, and ruin the harvest
instead of insulting ppl actually working, try it yourself

Back when EVERYTHING was under lockdown, one of our districts made arrangements to fly in dozens of caretakers from romania, hungary and slovakia to look after 90+ vegetables who are unable to do anything besides shitting their pants.

>Any work can be done by a machine, it's just a matter of economics.
Can a machine write a symphony? Can a machine take a blank canvas and turn it into a masterpiece?

>eastern europeans = ciganyok
kiemelkedoen jo posta

yes

>instead of insulting ppl actually working, try it yourself

I'm working from home as we speak, so not looking for a job. Also don't live in asparagus region, it's all flowers & dairy farms around my city.

Wasn't meant as an insult. Just simple economics.. They said the same about peeling shrimp, but it turns out that when people get too expensive and/or are simply unavailable, there will be mechanisation of labour preciously deemed 'impossible' to automate.

It has already begun:

Back in 2018 even. Special thing about this is that its a 'selective harvester'. It leaves the ones that aren't ready yet and only gets full grown ones without damage.. These kind of things will quickly become more economical when there is a shortage of seasonal harvesters.

Can a Mexican

Yes.
Machine can be as delicate as needed. It's not 19th century anymore, gramps. It's just a matter of money.

OHNONO
HOW WILL ASPARGUS PICKERS EVER RECOVER?
