Previous: Welcome to /extraflags/, a lovely spin-off of /flag/ except its a general for users with extra flags to discuss flags, extra flags, and autistic activities while funposting. don't have extra flags? get extra flags :^)

>What are extra flags?
Extra Flags is an open-source and non-malicious plugin that adds regional flags, like states and provinces, to the already existing national flags on Yas Forums, Yas Forums, /sp/, and /bant/, by storing users' post number along with the selected regional flags, and retrieving it from a database when a thread is loaded. You can add your region's flag by requesting it on the GitLab page.

Also, please redpill on Misri

One of the more interesting theories I've read on the Sea Peoples is that they were pre-Indo-European inhabitants of Sardinia, Sicily, and the Italian peninsula who expanded southwards because of demographic pressure/ climate shift / some other obscure reason. Apparently the technology they (or at least some of them) used matches up fairly well with archeological discoveries in Italy

I wonder if Punt might have been Socotra. It's an alien enough place that produced at least one valuable commodity, although Punt is described in pretty different terms when it comes to flora and fauna so who knows

It do be like that

no, what could've bean
and 'misri' is just an ancient term for egypt, if you know hebrew or arabic the term should be familiar.
it's the last time egypt would actually be a power of its own rather than that used by a greater force (like the greeks or romans). this is around the time egypt would incorporate upper egypt (nubians) and the levant (hibiru and other tribes). this is arguable egypt at its maximum power. but with the bronze age collapse, egypt has been a pushover since then.

i don't know how true that theory is, but i'll look into it. we just unfortunately know very little about these people so much of it is speculation based upon flimsy source material.

mycenaean greece was hit by the sea peoples, quite possibly the hardest. in greece, almost all the main mycenean cities get burned and abandoned forever, literacy is lost for the next 450 years, with no surviving mycenaean palaces today. according to herodotus, when the sea peoples arrived, they changed the names of many places. this is why so much geography in homer's writings seems unintelligible to us (so unintelligible that a writer even claims that homer's writing fits more with the baltic than the mediterranean).
in crete, much the same happened, but they moved further inland to the mountains and fortifications. massive depopulation happened all around in greece, leading to the displacement of native greeks via the 'return of the heracleidae'.

Sigh

Joking aside though, do you know if there are any records of the Sea Peoples making it into the Black Sea? AFAIK that area was pretty rich already back then so it would've been an attractive target

>do you know if there are any records of the Sea Peoples making it into the Black Sea
first thing that comes to mind is the kaskians, but i don't think they were involve with any of the sea peoples raiding, more so they just took advantage of the situation with the crumbling hittites. maybe some slavic tribe migrations into the greek peninsular maybe? but the black sea would've undoubtedly been hit just as hard as the mediterranean given how close they were in trading and colonization. pic related shows from the black sea, but i think this is outdated given it shows no invasions from sardinia or sicily.
what i do know is that during the bronze age collapse the black sea region was hit with a major disease, and with many countries dependent on the food production there, it lead to shortage of food in said countries. the black sea lost most of its population during the outbreak.

Don't joke about word spelling... It's been*

>do you not like history?
I specifically like late 1800s up to 1990s. I never really cared for anything prior because it wasn't that "relevant" to me aside from a few things. But thanks for the link I'll look at some things when I'm not busy w homework

if you wish i can recommend you some youtube channels for introductory lessons should you feel the book are too burdensome.

The Slavs were mostly hanging around in the swamps and fields of Ukraine and south-central Russia at that time, although apparently groups of them did migrate outward into Germanic and Greek areas from time to time

BTW thanks for the link to that repo. I'm surprised that there's so much specialist and modern stuff in there, you would expect that people would add public domain and generalist books first
