Yanks like to think their national birth was a mythical bunch of freedom seeking heroes bravely fighting against the biggest empire in the world, when it was more accurately a country's faraway colonies being whipped up into a frenzy by hypocritically libertarian slaveowning secessionists supported financially and materially and militarily by a larger more powerful imperial country to the point of that powerful foreign country bankrupting itself into revolution over it all

Americans didn't so much fight the British empire as much as they were the whole British empire themselves
