>look out this clearing with binoculars about a month ago
>elk start booking it in all directions
>weird bipedal "elk" starts limping into the frame
>pull back binoculars, look back and it's making direct fucking eye contact with me
>the "elk" casually limps back into the woods, on two legs

The white man, no seriously, the Maori had stories about pale red/fair haired fairy beings that would use magic to NTR them. They are called Pakepakeha and while the specific beings aren't well known, but every New Zealander knows the Maori word for Europeans which comes from them, pakeha.

But for something most people know as a mythical creature the best bet are probably Taniwha.

A spirit of lightning, marvellous.

Ogres.

Is that ball lightning? Not a cryptid, just atmospheric phenomena.

Obviously the Loch Ness Monster, though I personal like the Beast of Bodmin Moor.

Kirin is real

We have one about a strange light too, it's called la Luz Mala (the bad light), and i think it would be the most famous one between rural people.

El pombero/pomberito from the guarani mythology is also very well known. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pombero

Definatley the invisible dragons Taniwha (tar-knee-far) Roadworks stopped by the belief the home of a taniwha would be disrupted are to restart after authorities and local Maori agreed on a way($$$) of protecting the mythical creature's lair.
