I don't think that would work, at least not for Germany. We depleted most of our easily accessible resources during the industrial revolution, and we are dependent on imports.

Same for the common currency. While there are countries using a foreighn currency as their own EU has a true common currency that is managed by all members of EZ.

It could work if we agree on proper spezialization like in agrarian and industrial countries. I wouldnt have a problem sharing wealth with agrarian brothers. Unity & community, a shared burden would smite the nations together such that everybody forgets about national differences.
