It’s the truth. Nationality means nothing to that class of people. They saw themselves as having purer blood, being chosen directly by God to rule. The rest of us were just commoner peasants. Pic related shows Tsar Nicholas II and King George V. They were more closely related to each other than they were to their subjects, despite England and Russia being separated by an entire continent. When Russia fell to civil war, King George begged Parliament to offer the Tsar refuge from the revolutionaries, but rescinded his offer after Parliament told him to be quiet. Why would he do such a thing if he did not feel kinship with the Tsar? You need to look at history through the contemporary context. Our modern royal family might see themselves and be accepted as British icons, but that wasn’t always the case. The nobility were distinct genetically and culturally from the people they governed for most of history.

yes really. Look at medieval German architecture, clothing, "style". Apart from the Latin alphabet and language used by the clergy and thus intellectual elite (which was the case in all of Latin/Catholic Europe, not just Germany), Germans didn't emulate shit from Romans. People unironically claiming that the HRE was some sort of LARP is just a secure sign that they never spent a single afternoon reading about it.

There is more Roman larping in German history than just the medieval HRE
German architecture and ideals throughout the 19th and early 20th century were heavily influenced by the Romans, or at least their idea of what Romans were like. Germany is not free of Roman larp. Germany partook in it just like the rest of the continent.
