Ceramite and Plasteel. Ceramite is a form of ceramic that neither ruptures nor dents, and is repaired by simply adding another layer of ceramite to it. Ceramite also only barely conducts heat. Plasteel is just what you think it is, an extremely expensive metal that can be molded like plastic before it hardens into a super-tough structure.

A Tau Hammerhead can fire a slug at hyper-velocity. So take your standard tank round, multiply its speed to break Mach 3, and you've got a standard railgun used by the Tau. Even that isn't enough to penetrate the frontal glacis. Only multiple rounds will be enough to break apart a compartment and cause interior damage.
