Yas Forums‘s main complaint of this seems to be that it’s faux intellectual and that it isn’t “deep” enough. what would you change to make it “actually deep”?

That awful palette. Blargh. eye vomit. literally PurpleKecleon tier

But I liked it

The whole point of having an animated show is that you get to illustrate how your ideas work visually within a narrative with actual characters and progression. They didn't do that here. Instead they just slapped on previous episodes of their podcast to random animation sequences that are just there for shock and trippy-ness.

The entire time I was watching this, I wanted to either turn the video off or the audio off because having them both clash was extremely distracting. That's not even mentioning the mic-popping sounds from the audio or the random jumps in volume, or the switch between the podcast recording and bad voice-acting tacked on to try to make the animation seem relevant.

>what would you change to make it “actually deep”?
If it called out the jews.

Replace all the vacuous hippies on the podcast with actual experts on things like hallucinogenic treatments for depression, neuroscience, physics, AI, sleep, etc.

Or at the very least acceedited theologists

>da jooos
blue-pilled retard take

Nothing is ever actually "deep", it’s all a meme. You can shut the fuck up about it if you don’t like it.

isn't one of the voices a child killer satanist? one of the memphis three?

In one way yes but also no.

I just wanted adult adventure time and got lame interviews.

Most people are ok with it being dumb, I do agree some of the speakers are unlikable, maybe they wouldn't be if knew the person talking and why he was a guest in the podcast but I won't and that's the shows fault
Biggest problem is the disconnect between what the characters are saying and what's going on around them and I know that it isn't directly ripped from the podcast because characters get confused about the name they should use and the host/protagonist corrects them

Jews aren't an evil organization in charge of ruining the world, those exist but aren't controlled by them.
But there are some serious issues with their culture

This fish man is a cuck.

Yas Forums wouldn't know deep if it came and fucked them in the ass

Nothing, a TV show is not a good medium for depth. Books are a good medium for depth, because you can read a difficult bit several times to get it, and you can have vast amounts of knowledge in a single book.

To a similar extent, academic papers are deep, but they require three or more years of prep to understand, so they're not a good medium for a layman.

So TV shows are not a good medium for intellectual depth, but they can have emotional depth and depth of character, through the virtue of good acting and good writing.

So cut out everything that stands in the way of good acting and good writing, which is all the verbal diarrhoea in the show, and you get a show that's emotionally deep even if there's nothing intellectual about it.

People would complain about it no matter what because it's a meme gripe to have. It reminds me of how fags would whine about how certain adventure time episodes were "pretentious" or "faux-intellectual", without actually specifying why or how they were.

>implying you can't just rewatch an episode
You live in Brazil?

No

I think from a cartoon perspective it's good but from a podcast perspective it's kind of boring and comes across as too pretentious. Clancy is portrayed as an unreliable narrator when the plot happens outside of the interviews and the concept of a story about a low life stoner coming to terms with how he's using drugs and his podcast as escapism and learning to get a grip on reality is really cool. It's dragged down by being intersected with trashy hippie rambling, but I guess it kind of fits the topic of the show, it would be better if the the stoner talk was challenged and debated against more. I liked the one with his mom and the one about death and embalming though.

Episode 5 is when the story kicks in and everything before that is meh past the visuals.

If every episode was like episode 8, i probably would have enjoyed it more.
I think the main issue I have with The Midnight Gospel is that the dialogue is mostly based on a podcast, while the animation shapes around the dialogue. It doesn't "add" to the experience.
Thats why when episode 8 does the opposite, it's my favorite of the bunch. If this does get a second season, I'll skip out on it unless every episode of S2 is like episode 8.

Can't really help that the interviewees from the podcast espouse pseudo intellectual crap, maybe they should just pick more interesting podcast clips next time.

Other than that it would be nice if the transition from scripted dialogue to the podcast was more seamless. A lot of the times I'm taken aback by the abrupt transition, it's too obvious when the podcast parts are spliced in and it doesn't feel natural.

Say what you want about the show but the universe simulator is neat. m.imgur.com/a/TCpbeaL

I personally love it. The animation is amazing *mwah!*

Midnight Gospel is very heavy in existentialism & spirituality.
(in my opinion these are man made constructs)

That last episode when he was interviewing his mother made me cry.

Good show.

Jewish culture is fucked but so is literally every ethnic culture in the world
Autistic fixations on race engenders psychosis

The visuals remind me of Codex Seraphinianus

This is the real problem.

It's supposed to be about the main character realizing how hollow his bullshit is, but all he talks to are other bullshit artists.

maybe don't have hippies talk about "cool oriental concepts" and just have people from those cultures talk about it?

Also stop shilling the guests' organizations during the thing. i tuned out after they started doing that. And listening to them talk made me realize how wholly unqualified they were to even be talking about the issues they were talking about on a grand scale.

go back to /lit/

It just seems like a bunch of circle-jerking from people who believe they have life figured out. I don't really care about that specifically but rather the way its introduced. Do we really need the episodes to be 95% waxing philosophical atop some trippy visuals? NO, especially not when those trippy visuals and worlds are way more interesting anyway. Why go through the bother of creating so many awesome worlds and then not even bothering to find out the details of how that world works? they are by far more interesting than the actual dialogue.

post the gators fucking if you're so great

Don't let them fool you. Yas Forums's main complaint is that there's nothing to jerk it to in this cartoon. If that knight girl in the one episode had winged eyeliner and a fat ass Yas Forums would love this show.

The memphis three were released and acquitted of charges when new DNA evidence was found that proved they couldn't have done it.

Uhhggg, fine.....

>1st episode
Okay, that went into semi-nonsense territory, but the animation was okay.
>2nd episode
No animation will make it tolerable to sit through a middle-aged woman talking at length. The only thing worse than a female comedian is listening to a woman drone on about the books she's published about her life perspectives.

>Implying any of the West Memphis 3 are guilty of anything other then being goths
