That's my sentiment too. Fucking great movie but watching it today you can feel the seeds of all the awful modern shit getting planted. I don't wish that it had never existed though, I wish that it'd just remained an anomaly rather than becoming the new trend-setter.
The best CGI animated movie came out in 2004
This, Yas Forums just has shit taste
Robots was kino tho
Oh, definitely. For it's time it was a great antidote to the Disney renaissance and its numerous imitators but so many people tried to copy the Shrek formula (irreverent tone and frequent pop culture references) that what was originally something unique and funny quickly became bog-standard
And so was Shark Tale imo. I feel like Chicken Little was the first example of the Shrek formula done badly, and it wouldn't be the last
>Shrek formula
I imagine the sequel is also to blame for this, since it became the highest grossing animated film ever at the time. No wonder other studios started to replicate the formula, especially since 2D theatrical animation was no longer profitable.
OOOONE LITTLE SLIP
Shrek formula basically means : lost of celebrity voices, postmodern humor, pop culture references, plenty of winks to the adult in the theater, contemporary soundtrack and, if possible, a dance party ending.
For my money, Shark Tale, Robots and Monsters vs Aliens were the best Shrek copies, despite not being nearly as good. If you want to see some truly bad copies, then watch stuff like Chicken Little, Igor, Planet 51 or, lord forbid it, Doogal
