You ever think Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture should be a bigger threat or hold more significance in Spider-Man comics? Though he's the second villain to debut in ASM, I always felt that Toomes was Peter's first "real" supervillain (nothing against Chameleon). Though after several decades of material, Vulture hasn't reached the same kind of recognition nor respect as Norman Osborn or Otto Octavius. Why is that? Is it because outside of inventing a flight suit, Adrian hasn't really accomplished much, a significant motivation, or personal history with Parker?

I don't know, I just think Vulture deserves more love. What are your thoughts? Also random thought; I personally love the PS4 Vulture design. It's the right mix of classic and modern in my opinion.

>You ever think Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture should be a bigger threat or hold more significance in Spider-Man comics?
No

An old man in a leotard flying around and stealing peoples' youth is a hard concept to sell

Why not? Otto's just a fatass with 4 mechanical arms

>Otto's just a fatass with 4 mechanical arms
Otto is also a more interesting character with a better design.

Wasn't that only a thing in the cartoon? Vulture's gimmick isn't stealing people's youth. I could also say a man in a Halloween costume flying around on a glider throwing pumpkin shaped grenades is a hard sell too

They'd have to come up with a compelling personality or hook to him. I don't think there's been a definitive take on him yet. Even Spectacular kinda gave up on him.

I mean, 2017 Spider-Man tried too hard to make him into a main villain with the whole Goblin King bullshit and it didn't work.

ever why vultures are considered villainous in fiction? in real life all they ever do eat what's already died and barf and run away when threatened.

>A better design
You sure about that? They're equally ridiculous. Here's the thing about Otto; he lucked out. I argue that if Vulture had been given the number of early appearances Doc Ock had, their roles would have been reversed in terms of later significance. They're both brilliant men with technical achievements.
Fair, but Adrian seems like an easy fix.
>Old bitter genius is upset his own inventions never got recognition
>Now has a career in stealing/salvaging other people's tech to either sell or improve his own work.
>Most of his earnings go towards his suit, which is keeping him alive.
Done.
It's their association with picking on the weak or dead.

>You sure about that?
Yes I'm fucking sure about that, Otto's design has stood the test of time.
>I argue that if Vulture had been given the number of early appearances Doc Ock had, their roles would have been reversed in terms of later significance
Not really

Vultures are important parts of the ecosystem. Removing rotting corpses is important

>Yes I'm fucking sure about that, Otto's design has stood the test of time.
In what way?

Vulture kind of can't fight indoors. That's like, a pivotal reason why he's not used that much. He's just limited, as opposed to Doc Ock, Green Goblin, or Venom. You can't really make a guy who has to do sweeping loops to turn around that effective in combat.

His power is flight and that’s it.
He isn’t that compelling because no one’s done anything with the character worth merit.
Kraven had one good story, Toome’s could to if someone were to dive into an interesting concept.

He got in the comics briefly and ended up stealing the youth from the synth duplicates of Peter's parents.

You could say the same thing about Green Goblin. I don't really think that's an issue considering most Spidey fights happen outside in the skyline of NY.
Yeah but that's more the exception, not the rule. That's like me saying Rhino is smart because of Flowers For Rhino

He also has enhanced strength and toughness. Only a 1-2 tonner, but enough to toss people or small car around.

It's easy to forget. Most people just write off Toomes by looking at him, an old man in a green chicken suit. Honestly I think he's fine, and there's a lot you can do with him as a bitter inventor who uses the work of others to make money/stay alive

Vulture is great. Peter was a young man who got power and learned responsibility. Adrian was an old man who got power and decided to spend his last years cutting loose and taking what he wanted. Not arch-nemesis material, but a good foil. He has a solid hook to get him into trouble and somewhat a villainous reflection to Peter. Shame his biggest claim to fame is getting cancer and accidentally killing Aunt May's boyfriend, then getting his shit slapped by May when he asked for forgiveness.

I think if you give him something really distinctive like the Magnetic Blade wings from Web of Shadows you go along way to making him more threatening. The PS4 suit isn't bad but it feels derivative of Archangel and since Tomes is already beset by Falcon and the original version of Angel giving him full out sword wings would really make him stand out

I like that short story in The Gauntlet where Toomes was strong-armed by a fellow prison inmate to build him a flight device so he could escape, or his guys on the outside would kill Toomes's family. Adrian built the guy a device, only rigged it so he'd continuously fly upward and die in the stratosphere.
That's a dumb and cheap gimmick. There's nothing wrong with the OP pic, or with Toomes.

His green design is bad, his powerset is limited and his age doesn't help him being taken seriously.
Roger Stern went out of his way to fix Vulture, he was the one who gave him backstory in the first place. and these are from his run. Unfortunately that didn't have much of a legacy.

A shame really, because I do agree Vulture has a lot of potential. Just make him more of a neutral evil inventor trying to further cybernetically enhance his body, FUCKING DROP the green tights already and give him armor with some light weapons like grenades and detachable feathed blades like . Maybe some sort of a gun like in the movie.

They should just drop the green as well. Marvel Knights and Spectacular had the right idea to incorporate red and black. It's a much more fitting color scheme and a break from all the green-themed villains. It's not the 60's anymore.

Michael Keaton version was kini

Adrian works as a villain that Peter recognizes as a very real threat, but he isn’t on Ock/Goblin/Venom level.
Roger Stern did a good story showing that despite him seeming like a silly concept, he is a very dangerous man (and surprisingly strong) around normal people, and in Spidey’s world he’s aware of it. Toomes is on the list of Spidey villains where he quips and mocks, but he still comes in with his A game knowing it could go south.

I don't think his age has anything to do with it. Plenty of old villains out there.
>Drop the green
The green is fine. Besides they tried a red/black thing and it didn't stick. Again, PS4 Toomes is the best updated look.
Keaton's design had some neat ideas, but its rather bulky and cumbersome

Wrong

Dumb Wojakposter.

>"Dude! Like, what if, like, his wings were just floating swords!"
Edgy trash
Are you lost or just stupid?

Are you?

>Besides they tried a red/black thing and it didn't stick.

Because Marvel is afraid of change and constantly regresses things. If they actually kept using it, no one would miss it.

Your post doesn't even make sense. OP isn't a wojack image.
>Marvel is afraid of change
Want to know how I know you don't read comics?

>If they actually kept using it, no one would miss it.
That's the most retarded logic I've heard all day
