But usually it just sucks because bikes can be expensive. From my perspective all I can hope is that it was some fuckwit parent who was giving to their kids or something. Definitely pisses me off but in the grand scheme of things its not the biggest deal. I prefer it to having my car broken into

Outside the garbage punchline, it's two sides of the same coin. Nationalism is going "fuck you I'm better", while Patriotism is the friendlier version of Nationalism by going "Hey friend, come over to my house and SEE how I'M better than YOU."
Patriotism may not curb stomp your face, but it's still the same message of letting their neighbor know just how "better" their house is.
