How does Yas Forums feel about Art School...

This makes me want to bring up a story about Art School. You guys know Tom Preston right? Well just read hypocrisyofandrewdobson.tumblr.com/post/174312074192/ever-notice-how-dobson-likes-to-portray-his-old#notes

Here are some more stories from his time at MCAD hypocrisyofandrewdobson.tumblr.com/tagged/mcad

no I will not read that

If you don't feel confident teaching yourself and want to learn in a class-like setting, see if there are any skilled artists offering lessons in your area, like in an atelier. They're a fraction of the cost of art schools and will teach you what you need to know.
Art schools are mostly for the industry connections than the actual knowledge, and those come from specific art schools too. However, posting consistently on Artstation or Twitter can be as effective in establishing connections as those schools are.

The fact that any of that crap is going on in art school is cause for concern, the fact that it's displayed on an art school website is horrifying.

The rinky-dink community college I went to has life drawing classes, how o world-class art institutions lack it? Even if an artist isn't interested in the human figure, it's absolutely true that the lessons in form, weight, proportion, etc. that are learned from practicing figure drawing are indispensable to any artist.

In both case, the wirter of this post is assuming things that isn't present at all. Trying to present Dobson as being salty about that guy whereas he mostly find him talented and fun to be with. It's just someone trying to find every excuse to justify his hateboner.

Not really. there has always been things like that.

I went to a liberal arts college and our art department was a joke

>mfw my housemate died a bunch of spaghetti green for her art project and it took up our whole kitchen table and turned it in for her art project

Then you missed out on the hopeful page on that very same book, where it correctly states that self-teaching is easier than ever thanks to internet and that an appreciation for realism is coming back, ironically outside of art universities though.

Main question you should ask yourself is are you able and willing to draw 10,000 drawings before you can be considered good? Are you willing to live the life of poverty and uncertainty even after you're considered to be good? Most artists don't fail because life forced them to quit but because they chose to quit. Either they didn't find drawing fun anymore or their dreams changed to something else like raising a family, something which is very difficult if you pursue life in art and don't already possess sufficient amount of wealth to support it.

If you're fine with both of those conditions, then start drawing something every day. visit Vimeo's Croquis-Cafe for fun Croquis-exercises and a huge library of free models to draw.
