thats not how writing goes, unless the character is inconsistent in a certain way, they should be there or there abouts in how they act. Iroh being a pedo perv doesn't align with anything from before

I mean what is there for them to relate on? Zuko is this grand redemption tale that connects with the main villain and hero while Toph is the least relevant member of Team Avatar outside of Suki (who wasn't relevant for most of the story anyway).

Toph's backstory is the most relatable, its no where near as dramatic as the others. Aang losing everything, Iroh losing his son, Zuko losing his honor, Katara and Sokka losing their parents. Toph was just a spoiled girl who got rescued, and Zuko called her out on it in an episode.

My favorite thing about this pairing is that Toph wouldn't let Zuko mope around and wallow in self-pity. Toph is the anti-Mai. Mai encourages Zuko's moodiness and bad temper. Toph would beat it out of him. Toph would respond to Zuko's angst by punching him on the bicep. Which, actually, would probably do Zuko some good.
