What went wrong?
Castlevania
Adi Shankar and Warren Ellis' involvement.
Also not being Japanese.
Nothing, except for your cry baby attitude and your insufferable need to come here and search for some equal ground of opinion over newer cartoon content i doubt you paid for to watch when it easily surpasses most American made cartoon content in america over the past decade.
They didn't give a shit about the material.
Winging it only gets you so far.
SJWs
Ellis and people like this
Separated the trio which destroyed the humor of the previous seasons and left Alucard flying in the wind.
If they were going to do that they should have just went full hog with Alucard deciding to go back to sleep now that his old man was taken care of and have the series focus on the other two. Having him go through a will they won't they romance with the Japanese twins and then have them betray him for "mah Drama" points just wasted not only his time but the viewer's.
His entire arc was just to put him back on step one before he bonded with Treavor and Slypha.
Even GI Joe Renegades?
Someone the other day came up with a good potential arc for Alucard involving him and the twins fighting the Jiangshi from Ecclesia that could've worked quite well, but it probably wasn't edgy or sleazy enough for Ellis.
Edgy antitheist with a haterboner for Christianity writes an entire season of filler and makes everything needlessly grimderp
nothing
Story, characters, motivations, setting, pacing, start, finish. Sort of a Golden Corral of failure.
The lead up to fighting Dracula was simultaneously rushed and yet decompressed to a fault.
Season 3 was fine but at the end of the day there's no longer a compelling through-line and all of the characters are kind of just dicking around. Not that they weren't dicking around in season 2 but that all had something to focus on at least.
Charming characters and fun action is what it does have going for it.
Let's be honest: the whole Lindenfield arc was a setup for the potential Devil May Cry crossover Shankar wants so badly.
Not to mention the clear as hell insertions of sexual fantasies which is no better than SU's fetish display.
Ignoring that, why didn't Alucard think about going back to sleep?
His purpose was served, and the world doesn't need him anymore.
Because he promised Trevor he'd protect the Belmont hold.
The show is actually good when it sticks to the source material. Everything else is millenials being millenials, racebending characters, inserting sexual fantasies, relying on overdone cliches like the catholic church being filled with nothing but assholes, the usual stuff...
Ending on a series of multiple cliffhangers without confirmation of another season being greenlit.
But season 4 was announced.
Oh. Cool beans.
/thread
Why'd they massacred my boi Hector?
He's a fucking simp now.
Both season 2 and 3 sucked.
season 1 was good .
I liked season 2 a lot. The pacing was just weirdly slow for the main characters, and Carmilla being played up as a Machiavellan mastermind amidst a council of nameless vampires with no personality felt forced. Even her allies in the third season seem to be self-aware of that, because they all seem to think that she's the willful dumbass of the group.
New record for Netflix confirming another season being approved too. Their normal record for confirming another season was 2 months at the earliest, they must be very happy with how the show is doing.
Retcon all the characters atheists that kill demons with holy water and crosses.
Now if only they'd give me another season of Dark Crystal. They already have the puppets made, do something with them.
>racebending characters
Shut the fuck up.
From what I understand Dark Crystal is stupidly expensive to make, but you're right, at least all the puppets are made and ready to go. Only thing I heard about another season was that it was being considered.
>Retcon all the characters atheists that kill demons with holy water and crosses.
>INB4 some faggot say watch the show
There literally no way to defend atheists killing demons with holy weapons. Just admit Netflix castlevania anti-christian already damn.
Castlevania game series rn is about Dracula taking over from Satan and God and being the first and the last Belmont or something, if we're going to get ruled by vampires anyway might as well with go with tv's dommy mommies.
>overdone cliches like the catholic church being filled with nothing but assholes, the usual stuff...
What is the Catholic Church doing in Eastern Europe in the first place?
>Adi Shankar and Warren Ellis' involvement.
>Also not being Japanese.
Fuck off Yas Forums
That's just a retarded opinion, like saying a western character in some random comic couldn't use an aztec magical artefact because he doesn't believe in Tezcatipoca.
If the rules of the story say a blessed weapon doesn't lose power if it's wielded by a nonbeliever then that's just fine.
Castlevania's religious iconography was never Orthodox in the games anyway.
That's not a good defense of S2. However I like the parts that with Dracula, and wish the heroes did set around for two thirds of it.
You sound like you wrote this with a dildo up your ass.
>potential Devil May Cry crossover
fuck I hope netflix DMC doesn't happen
>The Church is evil
>Christianity bad
>priest blessing water to become holy water kills demons
>Most main characters are atheists
Is castlevania the dumbest thing warren ellis written?
Hector didn't breakdance camilla teeth in.
Lenore X Hector was some good, fucked up shit though. Really want to see this continue to a better place even though odds are, she's probably gonna die when she gets eaten out.
The Catholic Church was and still is nothing more than an evil pedophile ring run by conmen and kiddy diddlers. Only retarded faggots defend and believe in their bullshit. Fuck the Church.
Nobody seemed to be prepared for this season to be a transitional period and a rest after a massive battle, which means filler episodes dedicated largely to character development. It seems that everybody just kind of went apeshit that this season ruined the formula when it was the logical next step in that formula after the last two seasons barreled towards a singular goal. Shit needs time to stew before Curse of Darkness, chill the fuck out.
Also, a lot of people got triggered over the gay shit, which is weird because I've been dying for this series to go into more sexy vampire shit since day one. That comes with the territory, Alucard's visually based on Lestat for crying out loud, the gayest thing in history.
>wah muh villified christianity!
If you had any sense of perspective beyond your own sad, wounded victimhood, you'd realise how ridiculous you are. Christianity is doing fine. It has been for a while. It doesn't need you to white knight for it.
>The Catholic Church was and still is nothing more than an evil pedophile ring run by conmen and kiddy diddlers.
>Only retarded faggots defend and believe in their bullshit. Fuck the Church.
By your logic I guess we need to shutdown secular public schools for being run by child molesters. Secular public schools are the biggest child abusers in the west for Decades. lifesitenews.com
Fuck off Yas Forums fuck and cry fuck off.
Nothing, you just have bad taste.
They're clearly building to something with Alucard, how are you not seeing that? He's becoming more violent and Draccy, and when he meets up with the people he thinks are his friends again, he'll have changed, and the time spent setting up that change will mean more impact at the payoff.
This is like storytelling 101. You're basically screeching that a joke isn't funny at "Why did the chicken".
>Castlevania
>Not grimdark
What the fuck did you want? Captain N?
Why are you allowed an opinion when you're so clearly too stupid to use it right?
I don't think it helps that season 2 was a lot of nothing, and that the big fight only came at the very last episode. Going season to season it feels like a lot of wheel spinning, especially season 3
>which is weird because I've been dying for this series to go into more sexy vampire shit since day one
Well for you maybe, but Alucard has never really been a sexual character despite his appearance. Exploring the sexuality of a character that only had 1 maybe romance in the games was a major transgression of the source material. This is an adaptation, of course, but adaptations come with risks
...explain?
>It doesn't need you to white knight for it.
>Defending bad writing is white knighting Christianity
I guess making fun of a reboot of golden compass that all the main characters religious white knight atheism?
>it's millenials
Have you ever seen Warren Ellis?
>Most main characters are atheists
Not a single character so far is confirmed to be an Atheist. In fact, it would be almost impossible for any of the main cast to be Atheists.
Castlevania has traditionally been themed around old schlock horror films, so I wanted me a large helping of HAM with a side of cheese.
Padding and fedora-tipping like it's 2008.
Classicvania was firmly in the territory of the old Universal and Hammer horror movies and the Igarashi era later melded this with a solid helping of anime and JRPG tropes.
Maybe Lords of Shadow really was grimdark, I don't know, I didn't touch that garbage after Dave Cox felt the need to build it up in promotion by shitting on the older games relentlessly.
Lords of Shadow had amazing voice acting and Carmilla had great tits and that's all the credit I'll give it
Don't piss in a pot and tell me you're making soup and then be shocked when I don't want to wait 3 hours for slow simmered urine.
People know it for the shit side scrollers and to them don't care if it had a story, this is its story now, stay mad scrubs.
nobody remembers that show, it wasn't terrible but annoyed me how all the characters had a pitbull face.
yeah but I'm not sharing so quit asking fag.
>and that the big fight only came at the very last episode.
If you're expecting a big fight in a character development season, you're in the wrong mindset. That's exactly the point of my reply, and I think it's this exact whiplash that's alienated so many people from S3. First two seasons have a singular goal, then a climax, this one's a breather. There's not going to be another big fight, because we just had one that was built up to after two seasons. It would take importance away from that fight, from Dracula as the main villain, from the emotional impact it has on Alucard, and the significance it has on the continuation of the Belmont line, which is what we're seeing in Trevor and Sypha's day-to-day lives as monster hunters. Yeah, doing the church thing again got monotonous, but at a stretch you could say that was the point, that its all in a day's work when it's not the Dracula Vampire Apocalypse.
> Alucard has never really been a sexual character
Vampires are innately sexual, Dracula (and Alucard by extension) especially. The games don't have a lot in terms of character development, things need to happen in order for characters to develop, and the story they built served the ideas they were going for well.
Maria Renard isn't born for another 300 years, are you seriously suggesting they keep Alucard celibate until then?
There are some deep Hammer vibes going on in this series, my dude, if you're missing them for the anime gore then I'm sorry.
If there's one show where fedora tippers should just STOP the fedora tipping for the sake of the lore and source material - it's castlevania. I doubt all of konami's stuff are hardcore catholics but they ran with it because it would make sense in the setting to have the belmonts be hardcore catholics that get their orders from the pope and use stuff like cruzifixes to blow up evil spirits.
You don't deserve good stories because you are not a patient or attentive consumer of media.
We've literally had 3 hours of content over the course of 3 seasons. That's piecemeal, if you can't wade through that massive desert then you're a moron.
I'm the guy you're replying to.
Lords of Shadow was shit. And you're actually going to tell me Hammer Horror movies don't have excessive gore and sex, especially by the standards of their day? Come off it.
The soundtrack for Netflixvania is so mediocre it's upsetting. They take a series that's widely regarded as having some of the best soundtracks in the medium and use one fucking track begrudgingly across three seasons? Fuck that!
Yamane doesn't exactly command a king's ransom, she's done plenty of work on television dramas and indie games, so why wasn't she involved with the soundtrack?
The vilification of the Belmonts is taken from the fucking scroll of the game. How the hell are you going to villify someone in medieval Europe without the church? Just have a lot of gossiping townspeople? Weak.
Its a shame they rehashed the church thing again in S3, but honestly every thread there's a pack of triggered pissbabies whining about how the church is portrayed as evil, when historically, especially at that time, it's pretty fucking rough.
Not user you were talking to but Alucard didn't even do anything with Maria even when he was with her. Apparently being game Alucard is suffering.
