When you think about spinel is really a character that showcases the problems in our current day society and our class system. Spinel was a sub servant of a higher power much like the lower class. she was stuck in her position as a jester unable to advance beyond her rank. For a authority figure witch did not care for her much like how the higher class in our world sees the other classes just as a means of providing them momentary resources. The higher class or in this case the diamonds would neglect spinel almost without a thought just like how the elites would probably sacrifice the needs of the many for their own benefit whenever they feel like it.

Spinel then forgets her new role she's created for herself after she's willingly hit by her own scythe. Reverting back to her subservient role as a gesture she seeks to make friends after she's forgotten why she became the way she was. Being a loyalist got her nothing but a thousand years of isolation. the movie treats her actions while thinking for herself as a bad thing. Which is because she acted out of spite towards steven and the gems for what pink diamond did to her.
Spinel has to come to terms that shes lost all that time because she was being stupid. She should've known pink was becoming bored of her. However do to her class being close to that of the diamonds (she was pinks pet) the diamonds of course save crystal gems another annoying girl by taking her with them. Instead of any real punishment she should be getting for her actions. The elite only have the elite in mind when they make decisions not the lower class.

I see Spinel as those friends or relatives that we tend to take for granted. The kind of people that do things for us and we dont care to reciprocate because they would still do us favors.
I remember in one of the spinel threads reading that Spinel isnt programmed like pearl and she could've stopped playing whenever she wanted. The fact that she tried that hard to win the game for her friend, and how she must've felt when she got the news, its so sad. Some people may say that she was dumb for waiting all that time, and she probably was, but still, its heartbreaking.

I feel like Steven Universe is underestimated for what messages it's actually bringing to the table. The messages in this movie for instance I feel aren't talked about all that much sure spinel is lonely, that's the main driving force between her conflict with herself and the gems. But you can read a bit more into it kind of easily I feel like they intended this this clearly with how the movie ends itself. Spinel could have stayed down there and helped clean up her own mess but they kind of reneged on that and just had the diamonds come and pick her up.
This also would have been a moment to show just how even maybe through a montage how Steven really changes people emotionally.
