But it's still not GOOD. It's boring, ugly, quippy, grimderp try-hard nonsense that is painful to watch, featuring a cast of utterly unlikable characters treading water in a grey crapsack world.

Japan included the Christian iconography because they see it the same way we see Greek mythology. The main point of the game was still always to watch a tiny pixel wail on other tiny pixels. The show has to give you a reason to care about the characters and a ragtag group of underdogs is a winning formula.

so I have finished it and have to ask, where it the subtlety? everything was telegraphed from a mile away. This happen because the plot needs them or because "wont it be cool". Why the fuck would the judge not kill the priest and give adventurers clues to uncover his crimes.
