Jack of Hearts
What was the WORST incarnation of the Avengers? Comic or cartoon only, no live-action stuff
I stopped more or less after Secret Invasion. I stopped 90 percent of what I was buying by then anyway.
I mean, yeah, there's plenty other terrible runs there. Like the issues right before Disassembled comes to mind.
But the crossing was just rough. Things on that side of marvel were decent reads and then we had crazy murdering Tony Stark with little explanation aside from LOL brainwashed.

Are you aware how the Secret Empire event was like a remake with Captain America becoming the brainwashed villain instead of Iron Man?
In general the rough patches are easier to take if enough of the classic Avengers are around for the book to still feel like Avengers. 10 years of Bendis and Hickman pushed a lot of those characters off the team and even when the book is got, it's not really the Avengers anymore.
>Who was the WORST Avenger of all time?
It's Ex Nihilo, isn't it?
I did say I stopped a few years before that. The crossing was like secret empire if you were a do or die iron Man fan like when I was 13.
Also, Iron Man was a D tier character back in the 90s. Between that and Marvel going Bankrupt there was no telling if there was a way to bring that character back to better graces. No one looked at Secret Empire and saw it sticking past a month after at ended
>Also, Iron Man was a D tier character back in the 90s
People need to spot spreading this meme. He was C list at his absolute lowest. Yes, I am talking pre-MCU.
Yeah I was a bit strong there. But if it didn't have a X in the title back then, it didn't sell at all
Iron Man did have his own cartoon running at the time of The Crossing, so seems unlikely any major changes like that would have stuck unless it was selling well. Marvel's bankruptcy didn't become public knowledge until around the same time as Heroes Reborn, where they announced everyone was getting rebooted back to normal.
I'm still surprised it got a cartoon. Then again I was thrilled to see toys for it.
I'm pretty sure the bankruptcy got announced before Heroes Reborn. But I'm trying to remember Wizard articles from 25 years ago
>No one looked at Secret Empire and saw it sticking past a month after at ended
In normal times this would be true, but it happened during the peak of Alonso's Marvel trying to replace all their old white male heroes. There was belief it could stick for some time, it's well known that the event was re-written, the ending of the story reads like Falcon was still meant to be Captain America afterwards. People were justifiably paranoid that Marvel wanted to turn Steve Rogers into a villain, and drag Thor, Wanda, Vision and the Punisher down with him.
>United They Stand.
Done in one.
Its not just that the core members of the team weren't, you know, members of the team. I like the B-stringers. But the animation was awful and the costume designs were crap.
Swordsman is definitely Top 5 worst but I've a soft spot for Doctor Druid. I've no idea what Roger Stern saw in this character or planned to do with him. Simply terrible.
Gilgamesh and Deathcry are in the running.
