What was the WORST incarnation of the Avengers? Comic or cartoon only, no live-action stuff.
Who was the WORST Avenger of all time?

Who was the WORST Avenger of all time?
United They Stand.
Far as worst member, probably Swordsman since he was basically a Diet Pepsi version of Hawkeye,
Which one, the first one who was a villain and is now a broccoli or the time-displaced guy?
>those horrible 90s costumes
The team during The Crossing.
Honestly, that whole story has to be the lowest point of the team in general.
Wasn't OG Swordsman Hawkeye's teacher or something? Of course they'd be similar.
The second Swordsnan lacked the stylish mustache and is therefore the lesser of the two. I did like his waifu Magdalene though. She had cool armor
All the Bendis line ups were a bunch of ineffective losers who could barely handle street crime.
It's understandable why fans of Iron Man, Wasp or Mantis would still be angry 25 years later, but it does make you sound like you haven't read many Avengers runs in the last 20 years if you still think that's the lowest point.
>What was the WORST incarnation of the Avengers? Comic or cartoon only, no live-action stuff
Bendis New Avengers or Aaron's
>Who was the WORST Avenger of all time?
I can't decide between Swordsman, Jack of Hearts, Moondragon or Mantis
Reeds got his arms around both sue and she hulk, what a chad
Jack of Hearts
I stopped more or less after Secret Invasion. I stopped 90 percent of what I was buying by then anyway.
I mean, yeah, there's plenty other terrible runs there. Like the issues right before Disassembled comes to mind.
But the crossing was just rough. Things on that side of marvel were decent reads and then we had crazy murdering Tony Stark with little explanation aside from LOL brainwashed.
>But the crossing was just rough. Things on that side of marvel were decent reads and then we had crazy murdering Tony Stark with little explanation aside from LOL brainwashed.
Are you aware how the Secret Empire event was like a remake with Captain America becoming the brainwashed villain instead of Iron Man?
In general the rough patches are easier to take if enough of the classic Avengers are around for the book to still feel like Avengers. 10 years of Bendis and Hickman pushed a lot of those characters off the team and even when the book is got, it's not really the Avengers anymore.
>Who was the WORST Avenger of all time?
It's Ex Nihilo, isn't it?
I did say I stopped a few years before that. The crossing was like secret empire if you were a do or die iron Man fan like when I was 13.
Also, Iron Man was a D tier character back in the 90s. Between that and Marvel going Bankrupt there was no telling if there was a way to bring that character back to better graces. No one looked at Secret Empire and saw it sticking past a month after at ended
>Also, Iron Man was a D tier character back in the 90s
People need to spot spreading this meme. He was C list at his absolute lowest. Yes, I am talking pre-MCU.
Yeah I was a bit strong there. But if it didn't have a X in the title back then, it didn't sell at all
Iron Man did have his own cartoon running at the time of The Crossing, so seems unlikely any major changes like that would have stuck unless it was selling well. Marvel's bankruptcy didn't become public knowledge until around the same time as Heroes Reborn, where they announced everyone was getting rebooted back to normal.
I'm still surprised it got a cartoon. Then again I was thrilled to see toys for it.
I'm pretty sure the bankruptcy got announced before Heroes Reborn. But I'm trying to remember Wizard articles from 25 years ago
>No one looked at Secret Empire and saw it sticking past a month after at ended
In normal times this would be true, but it happened during the peak of Alonso's Marvel trying to replace all their old white male heroes. There was belief it could stick for some time, it's well known that the event was re-written, the ending of the story reads like Falcon was still meant to be Captain America afterwards. People were justifiably paranoid that Marvel wanted to turn Steve Rogers into a villain, and drag Thor, Wanda, Vision and the Punisher down with him.
>United They Stand.
Done in one.
Its not just that the core members of the team weren't, you know, members of the team. I like the B-stringers. But the animation was awful and the costume designs were crap.
Swordsman is definitely Top 5 worst but I've a soft spot for Doctor Druid. I've no idea what Roger Stern saw in this character or planned to do with him. Simply terrible.
Gilgamesh and Deathcry are in the running.
>Wasn't OG Swordsman Hawkeye's teacher or something? Of course they'd be similar.
>The second Swordsnan lacked the stylish mustache and is therefore the lesser of the two. I did like his waifu Magdalene though. She had cool armor
OG Swordsman was a carnie who took in Clint Barton and taught him circus acts, but was a small-time criminal on the side and later became a mercenary. He tried to essentially blackmail the Avengers to take him on as a member by threatening to murder Cap, which didn't go over too well. After that he became a probationary member because he had a change of heart, but everyone still distrusted him until he willingly took a fatal blast meant for Mantis, dying in her arms.
>Deathcry
Oh come on. I like the idea behind her a lot, even if the execution was lacking. Insecure teenager trying to act like a badass to hide how lost she was feeling.
Sersi was an A+ Avenger and it's a shame her time with them will never be acknowledged, nor will she ever get character development again.
Marvel killed the Eternals so they could bring them back when they know what the MCU is doing. Expect Sersi to be reborn as Asian.
And even before that it doesn't matter because Gaiman wiped out all their memories of their recent stuff so that he could reset them back to their Kirby depictions for his mini, so Sersi just became a party-crazy bimbo again.
I love the "Not muh" writing style.
just based on this picture alone, i wholly reject this. the fuck is wrong with falcon's torso? is he actually plastic man?
>People need to spot spreading this meme. He was C list at his absolute lowest. Yes, I am talking pre-MCU.
Maybe not D-list but the whole Avengers "family" of titles was doing badly, So Avengers, Avengers West Coast (which was relaunched as the more EXTREME FORCE WORKS), Thor, Captain America, Iron Man etc. They were all slipping in popularity due to the media juggernauts that were the 90s X-Men and Spider-Man franchises.
It also happened to Fantastic Four and it's ill-fated attempt to build spin-offs.
IM got a second cartoon back in 2008 that had nothing to do with the MCU.
I don't know about worst iteration, but worst member is definitely Dr Druid. He's simply fucking unlikable, an insufferable arrogance without anything to really make it for it
every time woke creators try to be diverse they end up just going full-on exploitative.
If you're a middle-aged, fat, balding white man who has never left New York City, you might want to stick to what you know.
>Reeds got his arms around both sue and she hulk, what a chad
Based Reed with the absolute best taste, you know damn well him and Shulkie were plowing
I don't know why Johns liked him so much.
>>Who was the WORST Avenger of all time?
>I can't decide between Swordsman, Jack of Hearts, Moondragon or Mantis
Seriously, no Gilgamesh? Dude has a cow on his head...
Beat me too it. Getting lovey-dovey with the wife while copping a feel on a verdant side piece out of view of each other.
Bendis run.
Worst character? Hickman's OCs. Ex Nihilo wtf
What the fuck is that namor? What's he wearing? Is that fucking Scarlet Witch in a cocktail dress?
>Core members weren't on the team
user, Hank was a founding member.
Heroes Reborn got announced either late 1995 or early 1996, I can't remember. The comics themselves launched around August or September 1996.
The bankruptcy was announced in late 1996.
how did she said all that mid jump?
Claremontian dialogue
Where's Wolverine?
>Force Works
>Extreme
Nobody actually read that book did they? Everyone just assumed it was 2extreme4U.
the sentry. boring miracleman rip off
just look at the title and the art
Wasp sure had a lot of different costumes.
Which one is the best and worst?
You can't really rank 150+ costumes
Worst: Triathlon.
Hopefully they don't bring back the Dane and Sersi romance with it.
3D man
All-New All-Different Avengers.
Anything after Johns left.
plz post examples, I wanna see this
Based, Johns run is better than most people give it credit for.
I'm mostly a DC guy here, can the lamest Avengers team out-lame the lamest League?
100% C list, anyone pretending otherwise is wrong
unless it had a Spider one the cover
I remember DC fans at school making fun of this cartoon
oh yeah the purple...wolf lady?
The lineups were solid, it’s just that Bendis couldn’t be bothered to have them do much beyond sitting around eating and talking.
