These aren't very similar.

Anyone else into Karfagen?

I liked that Robert Louis Stevenson album they did last year.

Underrated.

Jam bands are prog now?

Only umphrey’s mcgee

No, but that album is.

Didn’t trey write a concept album for his thesis at college

I'm not sure if it was an album, I think it was just a very long composition.

That's probably my favorite of Opeth's rock stuff, except for Damnation.

As good as Reflections or Lore, or just good?

Damnation is definitely my favorite though I do love some certain songs off most their albums, blackwater park is great. But the Steven Wilson influence on damnation is great. Haven’t really gotten into their newest record yet.

I haven't listened to their newest album either. In general my favorite Opeth is Still Life or Watershed.

Not a fan of their earlier stuff before blackwater, I just don’t like the production or black metal influences but I will say to bid you farewell is amazing.

honestly to me Opeth are one of those bands that have all really good albums

Been listening to this.
I liked it just as well as either of those.

I guess I haven’t given their early albums much chance. After hearing damnation I wasn’t really interested in their heavier stuff in long doses but perhaps I should give it a try.

I'm also a huge metal fan, so that is also probably why I love Opeth's earlier stuff.

I am as well, specifically progmetal even though that seems to be the most hated genre on this board.

prog metal is generally worse than both prog and metal tho

Ok. But I still like it. Normal prog is too meandering, normal metal isn’t broad enough.

What are some band's you'd recommend?

*bands

Prepare the hate.

Newest pallbearer is progressive too but more stoner metal

I'll make sure to check out the ones I haven't already listened to. Caligula's Horse and Intronaut are really good tho.

I fell in love with Opeth thanks to Pale Communion, their prog albums clicked immediately but their most metal stuff took a few listens. After getting used to growls Ghost Reveries became another favorite. Their early stuff doesn't interest me as much, even though I enjoy other black metal bands from that time such as Windir or Ulver. Still Life is great, though.

Anyway if you guys love Damnation so much (who doesn't) make sure to listen to Storm Corrosion. It's the yaoi crossover between Mikael and Steven Wilson that the world needed.

Yeah Australia has a good scene with Karnivool and twelve foot ninja but caligula’s horse is the best

I've listened to that before, it's pretty good

Great album, wish they’d do more.

Never see then mentioned here, thoughts?

pretty good pop-prog-punk, that's their best album imo

>album has eleven tracks under 10 seconds long
Why, though?
