What's your opinion on Vaporwave Yas Forums? You like it you hate it or know very little of it what's your opinions on it? (sorry for repeating myself)
Opinions on Vaporwave
meme genre doesn't exist
I don't like it at all.
DUDE THIS FEELS LIKE I'M IN THE 90's OR SOMETHING LMAO
DUDE SLOWED DOWN FUNK MUSIC LMAO
it's lame and Boards of Canada does nostalgia better than vaporwave (BoC is 70s nostalgia though)
How fitting that I misread your post as 'onions on vaporwave'
what the fuck are you talking about why did you compare an artist to a genre? fucking retard
I don't even like vaporwave but that was so unrelated lmao
Vaporwave is not something you can just have a single opinion that its "good" or "bad. Most people who dismiss the genre as just a meme have really not heard anything more than Floral Shoppe or think Simpson edits are an accurate representation of the entire genre.
It came pretty close to being a good/interesting movement, but it got turned to shit way to fast.
I can’t even accurately say “vaporwave is good” anymore. 99.9% of vaporwave releases are lazy generic sludge
Greatest internet-spawned genre, lots of diversity and quality, lots of lame copycats that shit up the genre. A logical product of the current zeitgeist. Ironic to see its influence on mainstream trends.
Because the entire point of vaporware is to create a sense of lightly apocalyptic nostalgia and while I can't think of another entire genre that has that purpose, there are plenty of artists that do.
Eccojams is fantastic, don't really care for anything else.
i like fashwave better
that still doesn't mean you should compare an artist from another aspect of electronica to an entire genre just because it generates the "same feeling", I wouldn't even call a lot of BoC's projects nostalgic as much as they are gloomy and melancholic
The only apocalypstic BoC album is Tomorrow's Harvest, all the others more on the hauntological side, like vaporwave. However, BoC's music is deeply rooted in 70s rural nostalgia, it is completely different than vaporwave's focus on 80s/90s corporate idealism.
Dead because it's fucking everywhere.
I listen to noise, industrial and metal now because I'm so sick of vapor.
are you kidding? geogaddi is apocalyptic as fuck
Dreamwave was not just a meme. It had a distinct sound and ethos.
Vaporwave was just plunderphonics with 80's 90's nostalgia.
What's weird is that the 90's to me = grunge and nu metal, not synthpop.
But this genre sounds like what most normalfags thought of the 90's (ignoring the bleak reality of it).
99.9% of any genre is lazy generic sludge
BoC sounds objectively nostalgic to every generation though.
t. born in the 90's.
>But this genre sounds like what most normalfags thought of the 90's (ignoring the bleak reality of it).
Holy shit, that's the fucking point you moron. Its not supposed to be an accurate representation of the musical scene but the corporate style of music that was popular back then. Jesus.
t. normfag that dismisses every emotion he's unable to understand as nostalgia
I prefer dreamwave because that actually had a vision of where it wanted to go. It sounded like a dystopian bladerunner vision.
Vapor on the other hand was kinda restricted to 80's/90's nostalgia.
It began pretty good. I still think that mac 420 is an actually really nice track and it could have been the beginning to a great electronic music movement. However it was ruined because of the very lazy things that came after wards, aka just slowed down 80s/90s funk popular music. Not to mention I personally fucking despise the aesthetic trend. I am genuinely sick of it and it's really sad because I feel it's really something that should have remained niche; underground.
But that's why I hate it now. It was ok in 2013 when there was still a little sunshine, but now everything is black.
That warm, dreamy feel of lost youth?
>but now everything is black.
Just like your wife's BVLL.
could've been so much more if it hadn't hit mainstream popularity and drowned out by shitty memes and landfill copycat music
Geogaddi is more occult/sinister sounding than straight up apocalyptic.
Ok, that's the beauty of their sound. However, it's undeniably built on a different pallette than vaporwave.
Dreamwave is subset of vaporwave. All those microgenres like Future Funk and Mallsoft are. To say vaporwave is restricted to the 80s/90s is wrong.
It's good, it's nostalgic, and it's easy to make most of the time.
But that would be me?
It's not a subset, it was a development of the genre into something other than nostalgic plunderphonics.
