ure fingering sounds like where people end up when they run out of ways to innovate
open tuning or intense chord learning are ways through

i just pick a scale and try to work with it, usually a minor scale. and i keep it somewhat minimalistic. for tuning i only do standard and if i need to i tune the lowest string up or down. i don't feel like learning the scales again for alternative tunings.

i just read open tuning is good for playing with slide. i should buy one and try.
