it is kind of amazing how art works in that sucky bands can still carry the potential for amazing developments in the future just because of the strange quirks in their sound. i do think sex pistols sucked musically but their effect was all in the presentation. and arguably this is still true of punk today. you simply cannot fully enjoy punk without imagining it being played in some dingy squat, or having experienced that squat yourself in the past
