I usually say something along the lines "literally everything except for classical because I'm uncultured" then laugh and move on so I don't get into protracted discussions about the different waves of post rock or Whitehouse
I'd just say I'm into a lot of 80s stuff like The Cure, The Smiths, Joy Division etc. Anyone worth talking to about music will at least know those.
