it got swallowed by the synthwave/ retrowave meme.
And then that got swallowed by lofi
Can this be a comfy vaporwave thread? Rec good shit, classic or otherwise.
>takes an already existing song and slows it down
>calls it a scene
That's why it died pal.
Wtf she dressing just like my gf
wow so you're my wife's boyfriend?
vaporwave was essentially the first meme genre. its key ingredient was nostalgia which proved effective in generating 'feels' in large swaths of internet users of different backgrounds. the genre hinged upon fairly low effort creativity and its fans were probably mostly gamers looking for alternative background music. i do think there is a future for the music and that the core idea of vaporwave is somewhat immortal. i personally consider vw an extension of new age music and would actually consider collage artist like negativland and the residents as closely related. vw scene should make room for projects like pic rel imo as well as it essentially fits the comfy nostalgia aesthetic and even has sampling

I hate how synthwave has become a major part of peoples’ perceptions of 80s pop culture, even though it’s supposed to emulate 80s movie soundtracks and not pop music.
goddamn stop shilling yourself, faggot
I legit saw her on a BLACKED video once
There’s more to music than just aesthetics and “vibes”. Vaporwave and all it’s subgenres died out because it’s nostalgic ethos is just as shallow and soulless as the muzak it was based on. Most of the critical analysis around it is just a retroactive cope to legitimize a bunch of gamer kids slowing down elevator music and yacht rock and calling it new.
>goddamn stop shilling yourself, faggot
this is also why vaporwave scene is withering. ideally shilling would be encouraged in a scene spawned from common software tools. ideally these threads would resemble b's YLYL with anons mining the inherent silliness in the sound of slowed down pop.
(pupper album is definitely not mine and i've never even explored the rest of the of this label which is full of interesting looking projects)
i made some vaporwave back in the day it was chill
It petered out and got overrun by second-rate lazy bandcamp artists. With that said it was great at its peak and pic related is one of my favourite albums.
post it on vocaroo, i'm not shit flinging faggot and encourage what little creative community there is on mu
what about deep internet. that shit was awesome
nice carpentry

Is vaporwave the first ever internet music scene? As in a musical scene that was not from a specific are but on the internet?
'seapunk' was a bonafide joke and chillwave was really analogous to irl hipster scenes despite being coined by a blog. cloud rap seemed tied to the internet being popularized by internet dark lord lil b the "basedgod"
i think vaporwave exemplifies the internet age the best because it is based in sampling the infinite pool of information at our fingertips. you can pitch and slow down audio files with stock media players and some browser extensions and it is exemplary of postmodernism in its breakdown of audience and artist. the deification of artists like dds and telepath led to a creative dead end for vaporwave imo
Nightcore did it all first. Also demoscene.
Stop posting pictures of my wife, please.
the 3 worst genres of the 10s
what do you mean by creative dead end?
curious
people grew up
zoomers aren't interested in that shit anymore
you would think that dds and telepath's professional execution of vaporwave would raise the bar for future artists but the nature of the genre was always about lowering the bar and allowing relatively inexperienced musicians a voice. it effectively erased a lot of the absurdist humor in earlier vaporwave culture although i personally find ITLLT simultaneously hilarious and emotional
i feel like there was kind of a sweet spot between the intellectual metacommentary stuff and the more 'honest' purely pop-oriented side of vaporwave tho. case in point:
bump

>intellectual metacommentary
i dont extract much of that from this user. floral shoppe or maybe pic rel is a more of a halfway point like you suggseted imo

these are males
Don't worry OP, Macintosh plus is going to release new shit this year
Everyone realized they can just slow down whatever tracks they want on Virtual DJ Home Edition.
