best prog album right here!
youtu.be
first for this 10/10 avant-prog album being so beautiful
1. of peter and phil, who had the better solo career
2. would you a early 70s peter gabriel
I can't name a single Phil Collins song I like, whereas Peter Gabriel made at least two albums I'd consider a masterpiece.
TALK, IT'S ONLY TALK!
also primus and the entirety of math rock owe so much to this album it's not funny
I dont see phil making So
Easy lover is a straight banger
>1. of peter and phil, who had the better solo career
How is this even a question? Phil completely abandoned art rock to focus on commercial, overly-produced pop music, while Peter was putting out incredible albums. His first solo stuff still retains the prog spirit, and he coined some proto industrial music with No Security. So is an absolute masterpiece and his soundtrack to Passion is beautiful.
Also Tony Levin is the man.
You guys like the Alan Parsons Project?
The reason sledgehammer slams is the bass. The reason a lot of albums are good is because of Tony levin. Leland sklar has been sperging out on YouTube, can’t even upload a decent play through.
Levin>sklar
Gabriel>Collins
Any good upbeat Jazz Fusion recs?
I randomly bought Tales of Mystery and Imagination at a record store a few years back, because I saw on the cover that it was based on Edgar Allen Poe stories. It ended up being great, and I've enjoyed the other stuff I've heard from them.
Spectrum - billy cobham
Comfy
Good listen. A lot less overly romantic than a lot of Argentine prog I hear. Good angular guitar lines. Is their 2018 album any good?
>new Steven Wilson is electro trash
>Devin Townsend is busy making choir infused symphonic pop drivel
>karnivool haven’t released an album in close to a decade
>opeth continue their 70s wank downward spiral
Is there anything good worth listening to post 2010?
Easily Phil Collins, you're a clueless pleb if you think otherwise.
My Brother the Wind, Camera, Mythic Sunship, Wobbler, King Gizzard, Magma, Gong
Can you guys recommend something different instead of the same old tired shit every thread
I don't listen to much newer stuff because there are thousands of better albums from '68-'85 I haven't heard.

Try this band if jazz metal is your thing.
Derek Sherinian's last solo album was a very good '70s-style proggy jazz fusion instrumental album. Has a few different guest guitarists on board. Simon Phillips plays drums and produced it.
Tony MacAlpine

If you like the macalpine stuff there’s also Planet X and PSMS
Yeah, MacAlpine is just a fucking monster of a musician.
For me it’s Hell’s Kitchen/lines in the sand. Sherinian has the best synth sound out of all the modern guys. Wish sons of Apollo wasn’t so buttmetal
All of Portnoy's post-DT stuff with the exception of the Winery Dogs has been pretty mediocre, honestly.
This is an accurate assessment. Even psms rehashed old stuff, which was arguably his best post dt lineup. He struggles from a lack of good songwriters. The petrucci/portnoy relationship was basically the hetfield/ulrich dynamic. Bumblefoot is a good guitarist but not a good songwriter. Even flying colors, which was literally designed to maximize the strong songwriter potential, is lackluster.
It’s ironic that some songs on a dramatic turn events are better than anything portmoy has been involved in since he left
MacAlpine should've had the SoA gig over Bumblefoot. Admittedly they were 30 years ago, but he wrote the bulk of the MARS album and the S/T 1990 one, which actually have good hooks.
I'm gonna dig in and defend the Winery Dogs, they're absolutely the best one of all those dad rock supergroups that have been popping up in the last decade. Richie Kotzen is such a talent.
Never said otherwise. But you already listed the reason why they’re good: Richie kotzen. His solo stuff is as good or arguably better than the winery dogs. Portnoy has been floundering for nearly a decade, jumping from “supergroup” to group, hoping one finally works out. Kinda sad honestly.
Didn't he get mad because he wasn't offered the Avenged Sevenfold gig full-time? Is he hard up for money or something? Why does he jump around so much?
