They made three of the greatest metal albums of all time so I think they're pretty based regardless of anything else. Very few bands can claim that, lots of bands in the metal world get one all time great, and lots more get none.

First 4 albums are some of the greatest works of metal ever created. Black album was meh. Load, reload, and St. Anger were absolute dogshit. Death magnetic and hardwired have their moments but otherwise are alright. Tbh the bar set by ride the lightning, master of puppets, and AFJA might have spoiled the listeners a bit though. Also Lars is a faggot and the $5.98 garage days EP is fuckin awesome.

My honest opinion is that Megadeth has the better discography and that the Hetfield, Ulrich and Hammet are fucking cunts as human beings

Peace sells and Rust in Peace as well as countdown to extinction are some of my favorite metal albums. Dave is the fuckin man and also /ourguy/ but he had some major fuckin problems in the early 80s so it's understandable why they gave him the boot. However they also did it in a really dirty manner which wasn't cool. Would have been interesting to see how Metallica would have panned out if mustaine stayed and Burton didn't die though.

First 5 albums are good stuff. Death Magnetic and Hardwired were okay, but didn't stand out for me. I don't fuck with Load, Reload or St. Anger.

Their first 3 of some of the greatest metal albums ever. They had some good shit after like Garage Inc. or And Justice For All, but never anything like those first three. They also made some really really bad albums so all in all pretty good with some major bumps

The members might be sellout faggots, but they gave us AT LEAST 2 objectively great masterpieces. (RTL and MOP. KEA and AJFA are debatable)

Middle of the road for me. The sad part is that you have to listen to fan mixes to get the best sound. The songs are hit and miss. One and Blackened are god tier, but then you have shit like Frayed Ends

I think Megadeth had a longer run with consistently making great music than metallica. I think metallica's consistently great music died when they made the black album. And Megadeth kept it going all the way to countdown to extinction, everything after that was meh

They weren’t good Metallica albums in the classic sense, but they were very sound albums. So all in all, they’ve had the same run as Megadeth, and both bands still lack the thrash trait beyond two of their albums each
