Except Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Julia Holter, and countless Post-Punk bands from the 80’s onward

Yeah but it's a stronk wamyn singing about #metoo stuff so it's I M P O R T A N T
Also Kate Bush
And fucking Fiona Apple herself. It really isn't that much different from The Idler Wheel.
I mean ive never heard all of things together before. Every piece of music is based on something pre existing, no music is created in a vacuum
>Except Tom Waits [...] and countless Post-Punk bands from the 80’s onward
Ah, yes. Because Tom Waits sounds exactly like New Order. Unless you're implying the synthesisation of ideas, literally the basis upon which all culture is built on, is somehow not creativity.
it is pretty original gotta admit
People who think this is original must be mentally younger than 22.
I mean sure, that’s why composers like Berio and artists like Radiohead get acclaim. The problem is she doesn’t make much new out of it and the stuff she did make is not really sounding or demonstrating any super amazing songwriting.
>synthesisation
>upon which... on
Fucking retard I’m talking about Pere Ubu and shit
This. Originality can be from innovation, experimentation, or synthesis. She doesn't really do any of those on here, it feels like it came out of mid 2010s nostalgia for 90s singer songwriters. Also the lyrics are drab.

Nobody who has listened to a This Heat album should be impressed by this.
>Tom Waits
That's exactly what I said the first day this came out. I liked this album better when it was Bone Machine. Also, Bone Machine has "That Feel" w/Keith Richards
none of those artists you named sound anything like each other, and no other artist has fused those influences together cohesively, so you are only bolstering the position that nothing sounds quite like it.
Is there a point you're trying to make or...?

Music critics are just the marketing arm of the music industry.
i'm saying you're a tryhard. just use synthesis next time and get your prepositions in order. either say "upon which all culture is built" or "which all culture is built on" but don't make such an asinine construction that equates to "which all culture is built upon on"
Record fucking sucks. Relay is the shittiest song I've heard in a long time.
I'm sorry but Scaruffi hasn't reviewed this album yet so I can't give you my opinion on it. Please post this again after his review comes out.
Next time either say "no" or "nope". No need to be such a tryhard about it.
new order is more new wave than post-punk and post-punk is one of the broadest "genres" out there anyway and can sound very different
that user obviously meant the more experimental post-punk bands like The Pop Group
>make some half assed julia holter sound-a-like songs
>then make some imagine dragons covers
10/10
Let me quote Zappa: All those rock n roll writers are the worst kind of sleaze.
>julia holter
honestly though why doesn't she get more recognition (well i know why: she doesn't write about le toxic masculinity)? her last album scored an 8.2 on shitfork and it's easily better than this. that one will definitely become more important in time
If any album deserved the 10 it was Aviary. The fact they didn't even give it BNM makes me seethe. Why? Do americans really only review based on the lyrics? How was Fiona's album even close musically speaking to it?
Aviary is God tier agreed
She’s prolific in experimental music and doing collabs.
And you’re right, I mean she focuses on the music. She’s actually trained at a university level in performance and composition so she doesn’t really play into bullshit or hype cycles
> Do americans really only review based on the lyrics?
Pretty much. Fantano managed to talk about the song structures in his review and that’s why he’s getting hate. Because people don’t listen or comprehend music.
True psued right here
