Why is there such a limited supply of sad music? Am I looking in the wrong places? I don't find Elliot Smith, Sufjan Stevens, or Bright Eyes to be at all sad. They all sound nothing short of joyful. Where's all the actually depressing shit?

You should probably listen to doom metal.
Cheer up, user. It gets better.
Carissa's Wierd (sic)
Well if you're like clinical type sad you probably don't have much motivation to record stuff
You need something that's soul crushing in a more abstract way
That's good
Appreciated
I associate doom metal with being a stoned teenager
I thought they were alright
Good point
This just evokes nothing from me in any direction, thank you for the suggestion though

What about this?
That's pretty good, I'll have to look further into cohen cause I never have for whatever reason
How about this, OP?
I gotta say that's a bit on the silly side for me, but thank you
Yeah that's good, haven't heard that one from them before

This is mine sadfuck music.
That's only if you listen specifically to stoner doom. Depression and sorrow are dominant themes in most doom. youtu.be
this would be cool if it was made by an old man but its made by some young nigger idiots
I wish you the best, OP
I associate you with being a retard.
Looks interesting, I'm listeing to the ravel you have on there cause I've been wanting to get into him
I've always liked candlemass, but I can't find metal to be sad. Dramatic maybe, but it never achieves sad
Would probably mean more to me if I grew up in that era, I do like smashing pumpkins though
Thanks, trying not to put a butcher knife through my temple

Nice DI list. Check out Moral Order.
I thought Ramleh and Anenzaphalia were good of the more industrial/noise related ones. Set Fire to Flames, World's End Girlfriend, and Mono were all very good as far as the post rock stuff goes. The Dead Flag Blues is one of my favorites of all time, good choice. Thanks for the work you put into that post
Just listened to Dead Bodies, great stuff, thank you for suggesting.
It's funny how Industrial/noise can be another word for Power Electronics. For example Symphony For A Genocide is clearly an industrial album but still it's in the PE canon. I think Anenzaphalia is closer to industrial while Ramleh is a definitive DI, can't have a PE thread without them (or Deathpile) you know.

Last thing they recorded in the studio. A lot of allusions to suicide if you read into the lyrics.
I don't get it. Why does he cover himself in oil.
Do You Want to Know a Secret? is probably the most depressing album of the past decade
