Really dig the sound but the production needs some work. I'm assuming this is a DIY project? It's going to be hard to bring up to whoever is producing but I think too much of the high end has been cut, especially on the snare.

I don't blame them, it's not easy mixing snares and cymbals.

thank you so much friend! for some reason, we lose a lot of fidelity in our soundcloud releases since it drops in bitrate, but there is a notable difference on our bandcamp page. I did all the recording in my house in a live room and used the basement as the control room. I used a ton of room mics and unconventional miking techniques. I just get super bored from hearing the same snare sample or kick sample all the time. I can take some pics of mic placement and gear n shit at some point if anyone wanted me to. Its not top of the line gear or even close to it, but it can all hold its own.

theres a lot to it. first its mic placement, then gain staging, then compression from the VLA II pro, then after a track, I use a parametric eq vst in my daw. For drums, I use a channel buss to rout all the post-fx drum stems to bring to a proper level to sit nicely in the track, then after setting noise gates on the kick and snare, mixing the stereo (or mono) overheads, rooms, then close mics, ect, I eq the master bus for the drums. I never side-chain any bass register stems, as it tends to clip out the low end. Once I get a prominent mix-down at -24db -ish, I bring it to my buddy at the uni to run the mastering. We have attempted half speed mastering in the past, but we get just as good quality from using a protools rig. I hope that explains it without giving away too much of my secrets.
