What style has been the trendy genre with the chad/hotties crowd? Like I feel like it was metalcore/deathcore till like early 2010s. Then what supplanted it? It can't be djent since that errs a bit too far on the technical end

Normie metal has honestly gotten incredibly stagnant. It's still pretty much just metalcore/deathcore with a few djent bands here and there. A few of the more succesful nu/groove metal bands of the past like slipknot continue to attract that sort of crowd.

Hipster metal. Normie metal is actually often better than the overwhelming majority of what gets talked about here. It can often be like Slipknot where aesthetics can differ by song but by and whole they stick to the spirit of less is more of Black Sabbath. Many thrash, death, black bands have more similarities to the more is less mantra of prog than anything Sabbath did. Groove, nu, and even some metal/deathcore is closer to Sabbath in that regard.
